The Serenade in D minor, Opus 44 is a chamber composition by Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. It was written in 1879 and was premiered that same year in Prague with the composer as conductor. The work is in four movements: I Moderato, II Minuetto, III Andante & IV Finale- Allegro Molto. The work has an old-world flavor with a Slavonic style throughout. It was originally written for Oboes, Clarinets, Bassoons, Horns, Cello and Double Bass.

Mr. Geoffrey Bergler, veteran Trumpeter of the Seattle Symphony has done a brilliant job with his transcription. This work is about 23 minutes in length, for advanced performers.

Humoresque', originally written for Piano in G Flat Major, is the seventh of a set of eight similar capricious pieces.  While Director of the 'National Conservatory of Music' in New York, Dvorak spent the Summer of 1893 with his family in the Czech speaking community of Spillville, Iowa where he was inspired to write 'Humoresque'. A degree of  'American influence' is evident in 'Humoresque' with the use of Pentatonic Scales, and is one of Dvorak's best known compositions.

Antonín Dvorák's famous Symphony No. 9, From the New World, movement 2, Largo, arranged for 6 brass and timpano. Composed in 1893 for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, this is a full transcription of the Second Movement of Symphony no. 9 The New World for Brass Choir. The piece uses the popular spiritual like melody sometimes referred to as the Going Home melody. The arrangement mostly uses the the Horns and Flugel Horn to bring this melody across. There is a middle contrasting section where the trumpets and trombones can shine, and then the Going Home melody comes back to finish the piece. Instrumentation is 3 Trumpets, 1 Flugel Horn, 4 French Horns, 2 Trombones, 1 Bass Trombone, 1 Euphonium, 1 Tuba, 1 Timpani.

Symphony No. 8 has been called more of a Slavonic rhapsody than a symphony. The folk-song character of the music is unmistakable, which makes it so much fun to play. The fourth movement (Finale) of this symphony has been carefully abridged to retain all of the charm and lyricism of the original orchestral version. Scored for 10-part brass ensemble, every part is challenging.
