SKU: A0.925039

Composed by Billy Strayhorn. Arranged by Cameron Scott. Contemporary. Score and parts. 4 pages. Cameron Scott #4896673. Published by Cameron Scott (A0.925039).

This is an arrangement of Billy Strayhorn's jazz standard, Chelsea bridge, for euphonium and trombone. It can also be played by 2 trombones, 2 baritones and 2 euphoniums. It would work programmatically within a standard recital setting, providing a subtle contrast with more traditional/classical repertoire. The duration of the piece is quite flexible, however typically between 4-5 minutes in length. Email me at cjs.cameron.scott@btinternet.com for the two individual parts, which will be at no additional cost to the initial price. .

Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 45 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3042223. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533739).

I. Tributaries
II. Memorial Song
III. Bridges to the Sky

Pittsburgh Rhapsody (2008) for brass band was commissioned by the River City Brass
Band, Denis Colwell, music director, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the
city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with support from the Pittsburgh 250 Community
Connections Committee.

The first movement, Tributaries, is inspired by Pittsburgh as a city of three rivers and
particularly the confluence of two rivers to form one. Throughout the movement
there are a number of places where two ideas converge to become one. Opening with
a fanfare-like gesture, the music then becomes more flowing before building up again
to a climax.

The second movement, Memorial Song, is a lyrical duet for flugelhorn and euphonium.
The movement was not conceived as a specific memorial, but its lyrical and elegiac
mood represents the many memorials that we all celebrate, both personal and
corporate.

The third movement, Bridges to the Sky, celebrates Pittsburgh as a city of bridges. The
music takes inspiration from the sense of exhilaration that one can get driving amidst
the post-industrial landscape of roads, flyovers, bridges, and hills.

A nice showcase for Trombone (or Baritone Horn). This selection requires some work but it will reward. A wonderful example of late 19th century music in America. This arrangement is a grade 4 and comes with optional substitute parts.

It’s A Long, Long Way to Tipperary is a British music hall song written by Jack Judge and cocredited to Henry James Harry Williams. It was allegedly written for a 5-shilling bet in Stalybridge on January 30, 1912 and performed the next night at the local music hall. Now commonly called It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, the original printed music calls it It’s a Long, Long Way to Tipperary. It became popular among soldiers in the First World War and is remembered as a song of World War I.

Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile is the full name of the World War I marching song, published in 1915 in London. It was written by Welsh songwriters, George Henry Powell under the pseudonym of George Asaf, and set to music by his brother Felix Powell. It was featured in the American show Her Soldier Boy, which opened in December 1916.

This skillful arrangement by Jari Villanueva captures the flavor of the original tunes and would be a great selection commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War I. The arrangement

includes the verses of the tunes and the British bugle call Fall In. This clever arrangement culminates in a rousing section that superimposes both tunes. Included is a Full Score and parts for Brass Ensemble. Also included are substitute parts for Eb Horns and Treble Clef Baritone Horn

A retired member of the United States Air Force Band where he served on the Music Production staff (as well as a trumpeter and bugler) and a student of Bill Holcombe, Jari Villanueva continues writing for different ensembles. His arrangements are played by bands, brass ensembles and brass quintets all over the country including many military groups. Many of his arrangements can be found on Sheet Music Plus and JV MUSIC. www.jvmusic.net

Jari is a 2016 Sheet Music Plus Arranging Contest winner and winner of the 2016 Holiday Arranging Contest.
