Spesso e volentieri la musica è come un treno sul quale salire per rivivere certi ricordi; basta spegnere il mondo e alzare il volume, magari chiudere gli occhi, e tutto prende vita, tutto torna a galla.

È quello che accade in Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, in cui la colonna sonora funge da scivolo per l’anima e le note disegnano a ogni inquadratura un ricordo che non sapevamo di avere, in una terra che non sapevamo di conoscere e con uno strumento – il cinema – che sa psicanalizzarci e alienare l’ingombrante innovazione che ci portiamo appresso, scorticando fino al midollo la vera essenza dell’arte.

Non c’è una vera ragione per la quale Nuovo Cinema Paradiso continua a essere uno dei film più apprezzati di Giuseppe Tornatore, eppure ce ne sono molte! Dal legame con la sua terra d’origine, al modo in cui lascia trapelare la passione quasi straziante e malsana per la settimana arte fino, chiaramente, alla colonna sonora di Ennio Morricone, che rappresenta il valore aggiunto dell’opera.

La soundtrack, che valse al compositore italiano, nel 1990, un David di Donatello e un BAFTA, oltre al Prix Fondation Sacem del 43° Festival di Cannes, è prettamente classica, fatta di sinfonie orchestrali, trascinanti e avvolgenti, che sembrano strapparti delicatamente dal suolo e cullarti.

Created for a mixed ability group of brass players, with drum kit and tuned percussion, this has been transposed into B flat from the original A major.
There is an opportunity for cornet and horn soloists to shine with the short technical solo/duet in the instrumental bridge section, however this could easily be cut to suit your group if necessary.

This is the second volume of the collection of best-loved Christmas hymns and carols arranged for brass, to brighten up your next Christmas event. This publication includes full four-part instrumental scores plus parts for 1st B flat trumpet, 2nd B flat trumpet, horn in F (with a separate optional part for horn in E flat), trombone and/or tuba. The tuba part is also optional because it either doubles the trombone part or plays an octave below. Both trombone and tuba parts appear on a single staff in the bass clef at concert pitch. The arrangements can be used with brass quartet, brass quintet or brass ensemble. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. It could be used as the basis of an accompaniment which means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios.
   
The arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a concert or service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. The arrangements been written in brass-friendly keys as often as possible. While the hymns mostly use the traditional harmonies, the carols have been treated more freely.
