SKU: A0.1017859

Composed by Mikey Lucich. Arranged by Connor Prim. Christian,Contemporary,Gospel. Score and parts. 18 pages. Connor Prim #6340251. Published by Connor Prim (A0.1017859).

An inspirational tale of triumph over the evil we all try to run from, Comfort at the Cross is a fantastic choice for any intermediate to advanced brass quintet. It starts with a haunting fugue that then morphs into a Bach-esque chorale texture that later adds in an epic horn line reminiscent of DCI mellophone writing. From there, the piece turns into an uplifting song of hope for the future, ending with a triumphant clarino trumpet line to bring the piece into a joyous celebration.

Moon Chasers is my third musical work and is dedicated to my Girlfriend who I met in the International Brass Band Summer School in Swansea in 2016. This piece of music is aimed at capturing the feeling of a young couple savouring the moment as they experience it. Not worrying about the future or the past just the here and now. I tried to capture this feeling with suspensions and utilising the different sections of the band. The intro represents the end of a manic day, driving home until A. Where the duet kicks in A melody and a counter-melody representing two young lovers. It starts as a minimalist quartet before the scoring becomes a lot thicker allowing more colours to come out. We hear echoes of the next section which starts at (D) with a rhythm that feels like its slightly behind the beat. It's a simple harmonic line but as it feels behind the beat this achieves a kind of euphoric feel to the music. This is then decorated by the twinkling stars that we here popping up every now and again which are represented by the Glockenspiel.

By Oasis. By Noel Gallagher. Arranged by Max Stannard. Rock. Score and parts. 41 pages. Max Stannard Music #4278563. Published by Max Stannard Music (A0.773497).

This song was the second UK number single for the Manchester rock band, Oasis. The song took on a renewed meaning following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. The song was sung by students of Manchester's Chetham's music school on 23 May, and on 25 May it was spontaneously sung by the crowd gathered for a minute of silence in the city centre. The woman who started the singing told The Guardian, I love Manchester, and Oasis is part of my childhood. Don't Look Back in Anger--that's what this is about: we can't be looking backwards to what happened, we have to look forwards to the future. It was performed by Coldplay's Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland on either side of Ariana Grande at the One Love Manchester concert on 4 June 2017. Duration: 3.30 www.maxstannardmusic.com @MStannardMusic .

By Bruno Mars. By Ari Levine, Bruno Mars, and Philip Lawrence. Arranged by Max Stannard. Pop,R & B. Score and parts. 42 pages. Max Stannard Music #3079513. Published by Max Stannard Music (A0.773426).

Marry You is a pop song featuring strong influences of doo-wop and soul music. The recording focuses on spontaneous marriage and therefore, since its release, has frequently been used as a proposal song. The song is by American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars from his debut studio album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010). I was asked to make this arrangement for a wedding and would be perfect should you be booked to perform at any events such as this in the future. This arrangement is accessible enough to be tackled by youth bands, and would also add a lively piece of pop music to your repertoire. Duraction: 3.30 www.maxstannardmusic.com @MStannardMusic .

First of all, if you're considering purchasing this quartet, check out the store on my website https://peteyc.com/store to see what I have there. My arrangements there are cheaper and most of the revenue will go to the arranger (me) instead of sheet music plus.

This is great for high schooluniversity students and professionals. It's not too hard, but beginners beware, it's a bit beyond basic entry level horn playing. There are not a lot of horn arrangements out there like this one. This arrangement helps fill a niche for small ensemble in that horn quartet music typically lacks repertoire in most contemporary and jazz genres.
If you're reading this in the future, this was one of the most popular songs of the year 2020! This arrangement is my take on it for quartet, semi-faithful to the original song with a bit of a jazzy twist. Score, parts and cover arts included. I hope someone out there tries this arrangement and has fun!

Programme Notes

Boudicca became the Queen of the Iceni upon the death of her husband, Prasutagus. The Iceni had lived in relative peace with the Romans, with Prasutagus living as a client king, paying tribute to Rome. The Romans refused to accept a woman as the ruler, and sought to assume total control. To demonstrate its superiority, a Roman Legion attacked the Iceni, captured Boudicca and made her watch as her daughters were raped. She sought revenge, allying the Iceni with the Trinovantes under her command, and wreaked havoc, destroying many Roman settlements. Boudicca was only stopped when Rome sent one of the best generals of the time, Seutonius Paulinus. Seutonius has been depicted offering Boudicca surrender with honour and her life, but when she rejected this, his tactical acumen proved superior, and all the Iceni and Trinovantes were wiped out.

1 – Boudicca Unites the Tribes

The piece opens with the initial statement of Boudicca’s theme. Figure 3 depicts Boudicca’s reign as the leader of the Iceni, interspersed with a sadder theme depicting her lonely widowhood. Figure 4 sees the tribes called together with a drinking song and Figure 5 is the war cry, as Boudicca gives a rousing speech, first to her own warriors then to the Trinovantes. The second time bar before Figure 7 sees the tribes fall into a restless sleep. Amid early morning mists, Figure 7 sees restless horses, with distant fanfares heard, signalling the coming of the Romans. The Romans main theme is at Figure 8, with a constant fanfare over the top, signalling the confidence of the leaders. Figure 10 sees the Iceni and Trinovantes coming slowly out of hiding, and Boudicca’s theme growing in volume until the death chords signify the tribes have prevailed.

2. The Bards Sing

The tribes sing a hymn to an unnamed Pagan God. At Figure 13, the Euphonium develops Boudicca’s theme depicting Taranis, the Bard of the Iceni, singing wistfully of happier times. He then makes an impassioned speech for peace, before cutting off in mid sentence. He then sits quietly (Figure 16) fearing the future. Figure 17 gives a euphoric and hopeful rendition of the hymn, as if Taranis has not been heard.

3 – Epping

NB: It is my piece, and I say Epping is as credible as anywhere as the site of the final battle, and will not enter into any correspondence on the matter!

A fanfare awakens the two tribes. Figure 18 sees the tribes prepare for a final battle, and the repeated section depicts two victories at Verulanium (St Albans) and Londinium (London – then a small barracks). At Figure 20 Taranis has a vision, and tries to change Boudicca’s mind about another attack. Boudicca listens to him, but tells him the die is cast, and there is no going back. Death or Glory… The war cry ensues at Figure 21, but at Figure 22 it is the Romans’ theme heard, and the death chords (Figure 24) signify that it is the two tribes that are being slaughtered this time. Brave souls (Repiano and Flugel at 24) fight on in vain to allow Boudicca to escape. At Figure 25 Boudicca prays, but realising all is lost, at Figure 26 drinks poison. As she dies, the last thing this brave British heroine hears is the sound of the Roman’s theme, signifying Seutonius’ total victory.

SKU: A0.870817

Composed by Olivier Eugene Prospe Messiaen and Olivier Messiaen. Arranged by Lawrence Killian. Contemporary. Score and parts. 17 pages. Linden Brass Press Inc. #4810755. Published by Linden Brass Press Inc. (A0.870817).

Olivier Messiaen's beautiful setting works really well transcribed for brass, especially in a large church. The arrangement is scored for 10-piece brass ensemble: 3 trumpets (Bb), flugelhorn, two horns (F) with a substitute euphonium part for second horn, three trombones and tuba.

Wikipedia: O Sacrum Convivium is a Latin prose text honoring the Blessed Sacrament. It was included as an antiphon to Magnificat in the vespers of the liturgical office on the feast of Corpus Christi. The text of the office is attributed with some probability to Saint Thomas Aquinas. Its sentiments express the profound affinity of the Eucharistic celebration, described as a banquet, to the Paschal mystery: O sacred banquet at which Christ is consumed, the memory of his Passion is recalled, our souls are filled with grace, and the pledge of future glory is given to us.
