The Mars movement from Holst's Planets has entered the iconic musical arena around the world. It's haunting drum beats in 5/4 time, terrifying chords, sounds of steeled armies marching to battle all are familiar to the public at large due to its being heard in so many different settings. This great music transcribed by Ralph Sauer is now available from Cherry Classics Music for 16 part Brass ensemble with timpani and percussion. Up till now this transcription has not been available, but now you can perform this masterful arrangement by Mr. Sauer with your ensemble. The first Mars movement was composed just before the start of the First World War (1914). It is a question, for Holst, of expressing more his feeling of an end of the world, than a reaction vis-a-vis the tragedy of the war. The version presented here is an arrangement for Brass Band (with alternative parts: Horns in F / C Trombones in bass key / C Tubas). Grade 4-5.
