This brass choir arrangement set for an orchestral brass section of Coleridge-Taylor's Sea Drift captures the subtle textures of the composer’s chromatic harmonies inspired in his original vocal octet setting of a poem by T. B. Aldrich. Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. One of Coleridge-Taylor's rare A Cappella compositions for vocal SATB double choir here arranged for large brass ensemble, Sea Drift is infused with descriptive tone-color painting highlighting the tragic story of the merchant sailor who perishes in a stormy sea to the despair of his lover onshore. The arrangement is scored for an orchestral brass section of three B-flat trumpets with alternate C trumpet parts, four horns , three trombones and tuba. The recording is of the entire edition.

Nessun dorma (None shall sleep) is  an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot and is one of the best-known arias in all of opera.

Although Nessun dorma has long been a staple of  operatic recitals, Luciano Pavarotti popularized the piece well beyond the world  of opera with his many recordings and live performances. Nessun  dorma became his signature aria. Nessun dorma also appeared on the best selling classical album of all time, The  Three Tenors in Concert.

However, our favorite  version will always be the soul-infused rendition by Aretha  Franklin during the 1998 Grammy Awards, in which she sang in place of Luciano Pavarotti when he was unable to  perform due to throat problems.

This arrangement for brass  quintet, organ, timpani/suspended cymbal, includes a full score, organ, percussion and brass parts (trumpet parts are provided for both B-flat and C; percussion part is designed for one player). Perfect  for any concert and it makes a great encore, as well!

From the Music of Black Composers Series is this arrangement of the third movement Humor from William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony for a brass choir of 4 B-flat trumpets, 4 horns in F, 3 trombones, euphonium and tuba. Still's Afro-American Symphony was one of the most significant classical orchestra compositions of the early 1930s to incorporate African-American folk influences. Premiered by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra at conductor Howard Hanson's notable American Music Festival, it brought the flavor of the Blues and folk music to the symphony. For Still the Blues was a distinct African-American musical contribution he incorporated into a symphonic work. As part of the early 20th Century Harlem Renaissance in New York City, the work was enthusiastically received across the USA and overseas. This brass choir arrangement of the third movement will enliven concerts with its colorful rhythms reminiscent of Gershwin and blues harmonies. Fanfare Beatissima is a contemporary work for brass choir.  With slight tempo adjustments it can be used as a processional.  The challenges and teaching points include changing mixed meters and exposed solo lines.  Trumpet 1 is a bit challenging extending into the higher range of the instrument.
