A great arrangement of this McCartney song used as the theme music for the 1973 James Bond film of the same name. These flexible wind ensembles can be played by woodwind (flutes, clarinets and saxophones), brass (cornets, horns and lower brass) or a mixed woodwind and brass ensemble - see http://bandmusic.co.uk/index.php?Item=FlexibleEnsemble for more information and which parts are included.

James Bond for Brass Band Collection

A few years ago I decided to base my summer programme around a central theme of the James Bond movies. Audiences loved the conceptt and the pieces because they knew the tunes and could sing along.

There is such a rich collection of theme songs available which people know and love. This particular arrangement is based on the Bob Curnow arrangement for Big Band and is not simple. But is very playable by any competent brass band. There is nothing overly clever or difficult technically but rhythmically it needs to be precise. It will be enjoyable and playable by all levels of brass band.

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Graham Boag. Rock. Score and parts. 12 pages. Graham Boag #5867675. Published by Graham Boag (A0.780061).

The Long and Winding Road is a song by the Beatles from their 1970 album Let It Be. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. When issued as a single in May 1970, a month after the Beatles' break-up, it became the group's 20th and last number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. It was the final single released by the quartet.

This arrangement is for Brass Band Quartet and includes alternative parts to allow for social distancing rehearsals as Bands start to return in groups no bigger than six at a time. The parts are:

1. Cornet 1/Soprano Cornet
2. Cornet 2
3. Tenor Horn/Baritone/Euphonium/Trombone
4. Euphonium/ EEb & BBb Bass

Thank you and enjoy!

• Melody and harmony parts for all standard band and orchestral instruments, plus drums.

• Chords included in every part, to encourage use of song as a vehicle for improvisation.

• In original key, so you can play along with the recording.

As a young musician, I often had a hard time finding music for me and my friends to play together. Small wonder, when I was a flutist and my closest friends in band played trumpet, baritone sax, and clarinet. Who writes for that combination?

Later, as a music teacher, I would either be approached by students in the same kind of situation or I would have an after-school ensemble consisting of something like 3 flutes, 2 alto saxes, 4 pianists, 5 drummers, a guitar, a viola, and an accordion. Now, really. Who writes for THAT combination?!

Since I am also a composer (who often finds herself writing for similarly odd instrumentation), I would simply arrange music for that combination. But not every teacher or student is comfortable with doing that or has the time to. Finally, I am sharing with you all the fruits of my labor. Let friends play with friends! Let people pick parts that they are comfortable with! Let’s play some music we love!

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Austin Ralphson. Contemporary. Score and parts. 32 pages. Austin Ralphson #5298919. Published by Austin Ralphson (A0.563879).

Yesterday is a song by English rock band the Beatles written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon–McCartney) and first released on the album Help! in the United Kingdom in August 1965. McCartney composed the entire melody in a dream one night in his room, and upon waking, he hurried to a piano and played the tune to avoid forgetting it. McCartney's initial concern was that he had subconsciously plagiarised someone else's work. As he put it, For about a month I went round to people in the music business and asked them whether they had ever heard it before. Eventually it became like handing something in to the police. I thought if no one claimed it after a few weeks then I could have it. I have arranged the melody here as a solo trombone feature which has been successfully performed in concert many times.
