The piece is not easy, for the band or the soloist. My friend requested a piece that was both melodic, difficult, but also pleasant to listen to.

I was requested to write a brass sextet shortly after the dog who had lived with me 14 years had passed. The result, for Sasha, is a brass sextet far more emotionally  deep than the typical literature. A brief introduction of materials segues into movements one and two that explore the mental confusion and memories of Sasha's passing, including little nonsense songs I used to sing to him.
