Funky 70s song by the band War. It starts out with the French horn playing cowbell! The melody starts with trumpet 1 then shifts to trombone, trumpet 2 and then French horn (after relinquishing the cowbell). The tuba plays that classic bass line most of the time but does change for a while in the middle and even gets a few bars of melody. When the trumpet takes back the melody at the end the horn can either play a harmony line or go back to cowbell. Should be a fun one!

Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808646).    Among the most noteworthy works by Clément Philibert Léo Delibes are two ballets, Coppélia (1870) and Sylvia (1876). Delibes based the latter on a Aminta, a play written by Torquato Tasso three centuries earlier, and it is populated by characters such as Eros, Diana, Orion, as well as Aminta and, of course, Sylvia. The third act opens in the forest with a celebration of the wine vintage, the Grand cortège de Bacchus (March and Procession of Bacchus). The March is exciting and brassy (enough so that the 1982-1986 television series, Knight Rider, used it for a musical theme!). The Procession is more song-like but ends with a big restatement of the March.    Completed in 2012, this arrangement runs about 6 minutes, 50 seconds. The gavotte is a French dance that was popular during that time. Gavotte and Variation was originally written for keyboard (in Handel's day, it would most likely have been played on the harpsichord). This is a transcription for brass quartet (2 Bb trumpets, F horn and trombone) of another arrangement that I wrote for my middle school students, originally written for mixed woodwind quartet.
