Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767280 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Baroque,Renaissance. Score and parts. 40 pages. Lyons Music Services #3218709. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767280). As part of my continuing project to transcribe Monteverdi's madrigals onto winds, here is the 6th book. In this book we see a much greater development towards dramatic representation. In a way, this book is divisible into two Scenes with a number of single items in between. The vocal lines are all much more complex and we can also see the beginnings of monodic writing appear in the semi-recit sections of some of the songs. Also clearly developing are delineations of the voices into soloists and chorus. Several songs in this book are almost akin to arias, with clear soloistic writing for the higher voices (Cantus/Tenor). The first four songs form a kind of introductory scena, which Monteverdi calls Lamento d'Arianna and there is a second named group Sestina. This song, No 12, translates as Betty, who cried, was imprisoned by Chloris the shepherd while he hunted a deer. Needless to say, it was for romantic reasons! As with all things madrigalian, the lyrics are rife with double entendres. Monteverdi uses some very close dissonances to describe death and release.

Published by Bright Music Company (A0.964587). This beloved Ave Maria by Rachmaninoff has been arranged for 12-part brass choir.  This is suitable for any brass ensemble, ranging from early intermediate all the way to professional.  There is an abundance of rest for every voice during this rich, beautiful piece.  Even the most advanced ensembles will appreciate the opportunity to highlight their sounds while giving them a rest during a full program.  Early intermediate ensembles will have some nice concentration challenges in counting occasional measures of 6/4 as well as working on intonation and balance. Duration:  2 minutes

Flavio Regis Cunha #4604215. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597240). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (literally: Awake, the voice is calling us) is a Lutheran hymn written in German by Philipp Nicolai, first published in 1599 together with Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern. It appears in German hymnals and in several English hymnals in translations such as Wake, Awake, for Night Is Flying (Catherine Winkworth, Wake, O wake! with tidings thrilling (Francis Crawford Burkitt, 1906), and Up! Awake! From Highest Steeple (George Ratcliffe Woodward, 1908). Johann Sebastian Bach based a chorale cantata on the hymn, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140, one of its many settings for organ and for voices. Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552680 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Holiday,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 65 pages. Jmsgu3 #6508475. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552680). Brass Trio: 2 Trumpets in C, 1 Bass Trombone. Duration: ca. 12:20, Score: 37 pagesJ.S. Bach's Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530 are some of the most popular and beloved works of the Baroque period. Composed in 1717, these six trio sonatas for the organ are among Bach's earliest works for the instrument. They are all in the traditional three-movement form and are composed in the style of the Italian concerto grosso, with two upper voices (treble and alto) and a basso continuo. The two upper voices often intertwine in intricate contrapuntal melodies, while the basso continuo provides harmonic support. The works are also full of virtuosic passages that demonstrate Bach's mastery of the organ. The Trio Sonatas are considered to be among the most important and influential works of the Baroque era, and they continue to be widely performed and studied today. The Bach Trio Sonatas have been successfully transcribed for a variety of ensembles, including wind, string, and brass ensembles. The parts are easily divided among a variety of wind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. In these transcriptions, the original material is retained, but often with some additional orchestration or embellishment. These transcriptions often emphasize the polyphonic texture of the original works, creating a rich soundscape.  The Sonatas have also been successfully adapted for a variety of string ensembles. In these versions, the original two-part texture with the basso is maintained, creating a full and satisfying sound that allows for a more nuanced interpretation of the works. In addition, these transcriptions often add a variety of dynamic markings and articulations that were not present in the original editions. These transcriptions provide performers with a variety of options for interpreting and performing these beloved works.

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.791111 By The Moody Blues. By Jeff Wayne. Arranged by Kevin P Holdgate. Rock. Score and parts. 12 pages. Kevin P Holdgate #5311335. Published by Kevin P Holdgate (A0.791111). Versatile Brass Film Music CollectionI did this arrangement originally for a 'Sci-Fi' inspired proms concert in Derbyshire for full band. The organisers had hired two full-sized Daleks which stood on the sides of the stage through the performance and never moved, but pointed their 'exterminate' weapons in my direction throughout the performance. An experience that many conductors may feel they have experienced. The music is from the original 'War of the Worlds' film and was recorded by the band 'Moody Blues'.The full brass band instrumental version,  a version for male voice, 10 piece brass and various solo versions with piano accompaniment are available for this work.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.930764 Composed by Vincenzo Bertulosi. Arranged by Andrew Schneider. Baroque,Christian,Renaissance,Sacred. Score and parts. 12 pages. Andrew Schneider #6505089. Published by Andrew Schneider (A0.930764). This motet by Vincenzo Bertulosi for the court of King Sigismund III Vasa of Poland showcases the development of the antiphonal late Renaissance concertato style across Europe before the Thirty Years' War made such opulent pieces impracticable to mount. I have arranged this 6-voice motet for 7 brass instruments (2.2.2.1) and have freely interwoven different lines and sought to interpret this piece in a balletic manner, like Stravinsky would in his Gesualdo arrangements.
