Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.917778 Composed by Anthony Prudent. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 39 pages. Anthony Prudent #5195423. Published by Anthony Prudent (A0.917778). Hello to all who happen to stumble onto this piece! My name is Anthony Prudent, and I am a student at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in New York City. This piece is an original composition that was written for the Brass Ensemble in the school. The world premiere of the song occurred on Tuesday, January the 7th. As such, I am distributing this work so that any ensemble, for school or otherwise, can perform it! The piece is roughly three and a half minutes long. However, it can be found challenging at times. Nevertheless, it is a fun piece to perform anywhere and is an excellent form of repertoire for brass players looking for something to engage with their performing groups.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767195 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Baroque,Renaissance. Score and parts. 15 pages. Lyons Music Services #3074159. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767195). Monteverdi's third book of madrigals of 1592 is one of the earliest steps towards the writing of opera as we know it. In this collection of songs, Monteverdi, for the first time, starts to bring small groups of songs (2 or 3) to form a 'Scena - a collection with similar words or on a similar theme or by the same poet and keeping them as a little group within the book of madrigals. The 9th song, La Tra'l Sangue is a song about love and war. The opening words are Between the blood and the dead.As with all of Monteverdi's vocal music, it translates really well onto instruments. The individual madrigals are available separately. This flexible arrangement is equally playable on woodwind ensembles as on brass.Flexible quintet parts are supplied as follows:Part 1 in Bb,Part 2 in Bb, Part 3 in Bb/Eb/F, Part 4 in Bb/Eb/C(Bass clef) and Part 5 in Bb/Eb/C(Bass clef)Other parts may be requested free of charge.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1049261 Composed by Friedrich von Flotow. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Classical,Pop,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 18 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #653628. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1049261).      The first performance of "Martha, or The Market at Richmond," a romantic comic opera by the German composer Friedrich von Flotow, took place in Vienna in 1847. Subsequent presentations were performed in a number of other languages, including Hungarian, Czech, English and Italian. Two of the most memorable arias from Martha are “The Last Rose of Summer” and “Ach! so fromm.” “Last Rose” was, of course, based on the poem by Thomas Moore. “Ach! So fromm,” known more familiarly by its Italian lyric, “M'appari, tutt'amor,” was an original composition by Flotow, a piece he had composed for an earlier opera and inserted into Act 3 of Martha as Lyonel’s tenor solo.      In 1955, The Crew Cuts, a Canadian pop singing group, recorded a song titled “Mostly Martha.” Written by Dorcas Cochran (words) and Ralph Sterling (music), it charted in early 1956. As so many pop song writers have done, Sterling borrowed the melody from a piece of classical music: “M’appari.” While “M’appari” and “Mostly Martha” share the same melody, the words and sentiment are quite different. Lyonel laments that Martha has left him, while The Crew Cuts jauntily proclaim, “Mostly Martha, Mostly Martha. What has she got? She's got the most.”      This brass quintet arrangement takes a middle ground. It follows closely the basic structure of Flotow’s operatic aria but does so in a sort-of up-tempo manner and with a great deal of variation in the accompaniment. It’s not really The-Crew-Cut-style “She’s got the most,” but it’s certainly more positive than Lyonel’s song of longing. The piece starts with a suggested tempo of 90 bpm, changes to 80 at section C, and speeds up to 92 at the end. All instruments get a turn playing the melody, and there are no really tricky rhythmic patterns. There are, however, grace notes, rallentandos, an “a piacere” and a number of fermatas. All notes are, for the most part, within normal playing range of each of the five instruments, with two exceptions: near the end Trumpet 1 has an A above its staff, followed two measures later by a high B-flat.      Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 2 minutes, 45 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755276 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 52 pages. Sy Brandon #4798435. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755276). The title Inventions' has a double meaning. The first meaning is that each movement represents a significant invention. The second meaning is each movement has sections reminiscent of a musical invention, a short contrapuntal composition that is usually based on a single theme. Movement 1 – The Wheel – This movement is a perpetual motion in triple meter. Movement II – The Metronome - The music in this movement represents a mechanical, wind-up metronome. Movement III – The Periscope - The movement is in an ABA'B' form. The A section, with its dark colors and slow 6/8 represents a submarine, lurking under water. The B section begins with ominous sounds that accompany the rising of the periscope and the scanning of the horizon for destroyers and for prey. Movement IV – Morse Code – The form of this movement is ABA’B’AB’’A’Coda. The A section rhythmically spells out the words brass trio in Morse code, first homophonically and then contrapuntally. The B sections spell out the names of the instruments playing the musical line in Morse code. The Coda spells out the words the end in Morse code. Movement V – The Airplane - This movement begins with a celebratory section in 7/8 and 6/8 representing the success of the Wright Brothers. After this festive beginning, a sustained melody represents the first flight that lasted 12 seconds with Orville at the controls. This melody also lasts 12 seconds. Accompanying the sustained melody is the steady staccato eighth note rhythm representing the sound of the motor. After a short celebratory interlude, another sustained melody of flight occurs with Wilbur is at the controls. The staccato eighth note motor accompaniment changes into a flowing triplet figure during 59-second flight, the longest of 1903. The flight melody now lasts 59 seconds as well. After a soft landing of the flight melody, the celebration theme ends the movement in a festive and exciting manner.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755275 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 32 pages. Sy Brandon #4632265. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755275). Euphony can be defined as the use of words and phrases that are distinguished as having a wide range of noteworthy melody or loveliness in the sounds they create. It gives pleasing and soothing effects to the ear due to repeated vowels and smooth consonants. Euphony was chosen as the title of this composition because each movement has a title beginning with Euph and the music is descriptive of the movement titles. The first movement is titled Euphenism. A euphenism is a polite word or phrase that is substituted for a word or phrase that has a harsher meaning. The music of this movement begins gentler than the way it ends, therefore the beginning can be considered an euphenism for the end. Euphrates is the title of the second movement. This mighty river that flows from Turkey through Syria and Iran was an important river in ancient times for its extensive irrigation of the Mesopotanian Valley. This movement is both flowing and expansive. Euphorbia, the title of the third movement, is a genus of flowering plants. It is also caused Spurge as it tends to appear where it is not wanted. This movement is a pretty waltz that is constantly interrupted by a dissonant motif. This motif represents the invasive quality of Spurge. The last movement is called Euphoria. It sparkles with its driving rhythms, fast tempo, and syncopation, all representing unbridled joy.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808684 Composed by Irving Berlin (1888–1989). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Holiday,Jazz,Patriotic. Score and parts. 42 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #3582931. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808684). Irving Berlin’s composition Alexander’s Ragtime Band was not only his first hit, it was also one of the most popular songs ever. It first gained widespread recognition when Emma Carus sang it in Chicago in 1911, and then it really took off when Al Jolson performed it in New York. It’s no wonder the popularity of Alexander’s has been so long-lived. Both words and music are absolutely bouncy and upbeat. The lyrics proclaim the Ragtime Band to be the best . . . in the land and invite the listener to come on and hear the group, even to meet its leader! The tune is energetic and lively, a salute to the toe-tapping Dixieland style that even then was developing in New Orleans.  This arrangement takes the natural exuberance of the melody and raises it a couple of notches. Wide open and sprightly, it features the trombone, but also gives each of the other parts a chance to shine, too. In addition to several iterations of the well-known chorus, it also includes the seldom-heard verse and even throws in a few true ragtime licks, quotes from Scott Joplin and Percy Wenrich. The tempo is a bouncy, cut-time 76, with some fairly tricky rhythms and one ritardando near the middle. Trumpet 1 plays a couple of notes above its staff, one A and one B. Trombone plays F above its staff several times and one brief G. Tuba’s lowest note is F below the staff. This arrangement was completed in 2018, and performance time runs about 4 minutes, 33 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, would be very interested in your comments; contact him at lessmith@ufl.edu or leave a review on the SheetMusicPlus website.
