The original tune is an expansion of a short atonal melodyhanded to me on a scrap of paper 40 years ago by afellow student (known to all as The Princess).Initially it developed into a guitar solo but it has now also blossomed into a tuba quartet. In both cases, the atonal melody flowered into something more tonal and interesting.

Professor Kuehn asked the composer to write a challenging work for his class.... and he did! As a Tuba quartet, all parts run the gamut of range and difficulty. It is also very playable by four bass Trombones and in any combination of Tubas or bass Trombones thereof. The quartet is in A-B-A format beginning with a cute sounding march followed by a very beautiful lyrical section and concluding with a repeat of the march section. It is a very satisfying work to perform and to listen to. The work of about 4 minutes in length is appropriate for advanced performers.
