The seventh of eight volumes in the Violin Collections series pupils' books. Seven pieces each a bit more demanding than in the previous volumes. The idea is to give students plenty of learning material so that they have something new to tackle without the teacher necessarily telling them what to do. Being folk tunes,  some of the students will already known the tunes, though they have been slightly adapted so that they can be played with the other stringed instruments without causing many technical challenges. If the students don't know the tunes,  now is the chance to catch up on some traditions!

The accompaniment book is available separately and includes parts for a violinist, the teacher or mature player and keyboard.

Collections will be available for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. All can play and learn together and the books can be used for ensembles and for sight reading.

Learning topics are included at the beginning of each Collection. It is possible to buy the collections in eight volumes, one whole volume, 76 pieces or split into two parts.

From plaintive to fiercely beautiful, this arrangement of the traditional fiddle tune The Wind that Shakes the Barley evokes the words that Robert Joyce wrote for the ballad over a hundred years ago.  

This solo violin fiddle arrangement uses running notes and an energetic double stop section to give voice to the complexity of feelings Joyce wrote about in his poem.

Red Wing, is a well-known American Old-Time and Bluegrass tune.  Woody Guthrie adopted this tune for his song, Union Maid.  Here it is arranged in key of G for beginner fiddle and mandolin players. Guitar tab is included. You can take this tune to any old-time or bluegrass gathering and others there will know it and play along with you.
