Composed by Thomas Moore. Arranged by Alex Nunes Rodrigues. Folk. 1 pages. Alex Rodrigues #1070877. Published by Alex Rodrigues (A0.1494273).

The Last Rose of Summer is a work deeply rooted in Irish culture, originally penned as a poem by the renowned poet and composer Thomas Moore in 1805. Moore, regarded as Ireland’s national poet, was inspired by an 'Old Blush' rose while staying at Jenkinstown Castle in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The poem was published as part of his Irish Melodies collection between 1807 and 1834 and later set to music by fellow Irishman John Stevenson. The song gained widespread popularity and was incorporated into the opera Martha by the German composer Friedrich von Flotow, which premiered in 1847 in Vienna.

This sheet music has been adapted for solo instrument, preserving the original melody by Moore and Stevenson in its essence. The simplicity of the arrangement allows the musician to highlight the purity of the melody, making it easier to perform while maintaining the piece's emotional character. This version is designed to be accessible for beginner to intermediate musicians, enabling an authentic interpretation that respects the traditional nuances of the work.

The Last Rose of Summer captures the essence of melancholy and the passage of time—universal themes reflected in the farewell to the last vestige of a vibrant summer. The melody, paired with Moore’s poetry, evokes a profound sense of loss and longing, with the solitary rose serving as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of life and the seasons. The simplicity and beauty of this piece have made it a classic, perpetuating Irish tradition and touching the hearts of listeners worldwide.

Composed by Traditional British Jig. Arranged by Sandy McIntire. Folk,Instructional,Multicultural,Traditional,Wedding,World. 3 pages. Sandy McIntire #6114453. Published by Sandy McIntire (A0.697638).

Haste to the Wedding has been a popular double jig through several centuries. One theory suggests Haste to the Wedding derives from a tradition in County Donegal, Ireland, where it was played as the bride marched from her home to the church on her wedding day. Haste to the Wedding was played during Queen Victoria's wedding to the thousands waiting outside the chapel for the queen's arrival. It has been much recorded, including by Fennig's All-Star String Band.
This arrangement is for early intermediate violin, fiddle, and mandolin players. It is a double jig (played in 6/8 time) and provides excellent technical training for students. Chords are also provided for accompaniests.

Composed by Myanna Harvey. Arranged by Cassia Harvey. Celtic,Folk,World. 5 pages. C Harvey Publications #5376309. Published by C Harvey Publications (A0.806441).

From plaintive to fiercely beautiful, this arrangement of the traditional fiddle tune The Wind that Shakes the Barley evokes the words that Robert Joyce wrote for the ballad over a hundred years ago.

This solo violin fiddle arrangement uses running notes and an energetic double stop section to give voice to the complexity of feelings Joyce wrote about in his poem.

I sat within a valley green,
I sat there with my true love,
My sad heart strove the two between,
The old love and the new love,
The old for her, the new that made
Me think of Ireland dearly,
While soft the wind blew down the glade
And shook the golden barley
