Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. Contemporary. Individual part. 14 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #5888347. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869663).

There is a lot of time to compose when you are stuck at home during the Pandemic of 2020. This is the fifth work I completed under lockdown.:

  1. Trio 803 was completed on April 7, 2020
  2. Kindertodtotenlieder was completed on May 13, 2020
  3. Préludes … Hommage à C.D. was completed on June 5, 2020
  4. Chansons de Maeterlinck was completed on June 20, 2020

I have always been a huge fan of the Mendelssohn Octet for double string quartet. In my search of octets on YouTube I noticed that there were a number of octets that used a double bass instead of a second cello. I thought that configuration would suit what I had in mind for my octet.

Octet for Strings is in five movements.

I. Adagio

II. Allegro

III. Adagio

IV. Allegro TRIO

V. Andantino

Total duration, ca. 22 minutes.

Enjoy!!!

By Stan Getz & Astrud Gilberto. By Antonio Carlos Jobim, Norman Gimbel, and Vinicius De Moraes. Arranged by Leo Silva. Jazz,Latin. Individual part. 2 pages. Published by MP Sheet Music (A0.495361).

The Girl From Ipanema (Girl from Ipanema) is a Brazilian song from Bossa Nova. It was composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim and written by Vinicius de Moraes in 1962. A 1964 version, recorded by Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz in the United States, became an international success. This is present on the Getz/Gilberto album, which also included songs by João Gilberto. In the United States, the single reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining for two weeks, and in the United Kingdom it reached number 29. Ipanema is a beachfront neighborhood located in the southern region of the city of Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. The song was inspired by Heloísa Eneida Menezes Paes Pinto (now known as Helo Pinheiro), a seventeen-year-old girl who lived on Montenegro Street in Ipanema. Every day, she passed the bar-café Veloso on her way to the beach.

Composed by Jennie Lou Klim. Instructional. Individual part. 47 pages. Jennie Lou Klim #2856949. Published by Jennie Lou Klim (A0.953754).

One Step At A Time is a five-part method of teaching the fundamentals of music on the viola.  It is written in a way that is logical, sequential, and easy to understand.  The success of this approach is in its simplicity.  The writing of this series is the culmination of many years of teaching, and is based on carefully considered pedagogical principles.

The specific goal in Book II is to teach note reading on the D and G strings, without the distraction of letter names or fingerings.  Fundamental concepts are introduced with simple tunes and exercises on uncluttered pages, with an emphasis on the Two-Three Finger Pattern.

I am grateful to my violinist daughter, Amy Harris Jevitt, who guided me when I was challenged to find the most logical pathway through the keys, and gave me her invaluable opinion in regard to pedagogical issues; and to my husband, Paul, for his endless hours of proofreading the multiple revisions as the series evolved.  His total support and understanding made it possible to complete One Step At A Time.
