Another work in the series for younger and less experienced instrumentalist with organ, this is based on the Palm Sunday hymn tune Ellacombe, with one of the most popular texts being Hosanna, Loud Hosanna.  Once again, the range and rhythmic demands on the trombonist are minimal, with the easy organ part being very supportive.  Parts are also included for baritone (both TC and BC), trumpet, and tenor sax.  There are two other movments, Easter and Lent, also available separately, or as the complete three movement suite.  There are two other suites from 2020 and 2021 available as well, with two movements of each based on hymn tunes and the other movements being original works.  Give that young musician a chance to shine!  Videos of all three movements on the YouTube channel OrganGuyPhil.

This work is written for the younger, less experienced trombonist, and is based on the hymn tune Aurelia, with the usual text being The Church's One Foundation.  The range is only an octave and the rhythms are well within the capabilities of a middle school trombonist.  It would be perfect as a prelude, offertory, postlude, or special music!  This is the first movement of the suite.  Look for the second (based on Picardy) or the 2020 Suite of three movements, all available here on SMP!

This peaceful Lenten piece is another in a series of works for the younger, less experienced trombonist and organ. Based on the hymn Glory Be to Jesus, this is the hymn tune known as Wem In Leindenstagen or Caswall.  The range and rhythmic requirements are minimal for the young player, and the organ part plays a big role in support of the soloist.  This would be perfect for Lent, Ash Wednesday, or Holy Week services.  Parts included are for trombone, baritone bass clef, baritone treble clef, trumpet, and tenor sax.  It was recorded with the composer playing both organ and trombone (thanks to the organ's MIDI recorder)!

Based on the Christmas carol Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, the hymn tune is is the traditional Polish tune W Zlobie Lezy. This is the third movement of a suite written for the younger, less-experienced trombonist.  With a chromatic, chordal accompaniment, this will give these trombonists a chance to work on some new notes and triplet patterns.  The other two movements, 1. Foundation Fanfare and 2. Psalm on Picardy, are based on hymn tunes, making this suite appropriate for church or recital use.  Each has a very limited range and easier rhythms, most of which are introduced by the organ accompaniment.  Give that young musician a chance to shine!  In addition to the organ and trombone parts, I have included a treble clef part, for those Baritone TC, Tenor Sax, or Trumpet players too!

Originally an organ solo by Louis-James-Alfred Lefebure-Wely (1817-1869), a French Romantic organist. He was known in his day as having a 'pop music feel' to his classical compositions. This 2 minute piece is typical, having a beautiful, expressive, romantic melody which doesn't take itself too seriously. Here arranged for instrumental solo with organ accompaniment in a full 4 page score, with 2 page solo part. Great piece for the list of wedding prelude music or concert. Temporary MIDI recording; a live performance will be much more expressive.

Maggiolata is the Italian name of an ancient Spring Festival celebrated on May 1st, hence the subtitle Song of May. Jeno Hubay, Head of the Violin Dept at the Budapest Academy of Music, wrote this piece to be as light and celebratory as a perfect spring day. My arrangement abridges and slightly simplifies this classical standard. I reduced it from 6 1/2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes by focusing on the recapitulation of the main theme but also included opening and closing cadenzas. Most of the expression markings are my own additions. I have scored it as an Instrumental Solo with an Organ accompaniment but a Piano accompaniment could be easily adapted from this. This arrangement, with an octave and a half solo range, is easy enough to be accessible for most players and its beautiful melody will have you singing and longing for spring.
