This is the second movement from A Vom Himmel Hoch Triptych, a three movement work based on the Christmas hymn From Heaven Above to Earth I Come.  This gentle setting is based on the words from a verse which states Ah, Dearest Jesus, Holy Child, and is meant to be calm, serene, and meditative.  The melody is found in the pedal part, while the melody above includes fragments of Divinum Mysterium, better known as Of the father's love begotten.  It was written and recorded on a two manual instrument.  The complete three movement triptych is available on this website as well.  May it add beauty to your Advent and Christmas season!

An organ arrangement of the Provençal tune used with the Easter text Now Let the Heavens Be Joyful.  Suitable for worship or concert use during the Easter season.  May function as prelude, postlude, hymn introduction or hymn accompaniment.  Written on three staves with pedal; suitable for a 2-manual organ.

The arrangement begins with an introduction based on tune motives, then three continuous variations of the tune follow, with an ending based on the refrain.  The arrangement employs abundant harmonic variety and builds in intensity and texture from one variation to the next.  In the first variation the melody is played in the right hand with left hand counterpoint and pedal accompaniment.  In the second variation the melody is played in the left hand with fanfare motives in the right hand, and pedal is added on the refrain.  The third variation employs full organ and thick chordal texture.  The refrain is repeated at a slower tempo and earlier fanfare motives reappear to end the piece.

This three movement suite is based on the famous Christmas hymn tune Vom Himmel Hoch, most known as From Heaven Above to Earth I Come.  Each movement is based on a line from one of the verses:
1.  Welcome to Earth, O Noble Guest (a regal setting of the tune)
2.  Ah, Dearest Jesus, Holy Child (a peaceful setting)
3.  My Heart for Very Joy Doth Leap (a joyful setting)
The three works could work together as one suite, or used separately with 1 as a prelude, 2 as an offertory, and 3 as a postlude.  It was written as a dedication to Australian organist James Flores for his continued promotion of new organ works.  It was written and recorded on a two manual instrument.  It will hopefully add a wonderful touch to your Christmas or Advent services!  Each movement is also available separately.

A well known classic arranged as an organ solo in response to a request from a friend. The solo melody is played on the Great with the accompaniment played on the Swell and pedals. I have endeavoured to retain the flavour of the original arpeggio style accompaniment as far as it is practically possible. It is set out on four staves to avoid numerous clef changes and to actually make the score easier to read. This arrangement only requires two manuals.

This festive organ work is based on the hymn tune Grosser Gott, known usually by the text Holy God, We Praise Your Name.  This work is playable on one manual, and while composed with a faster tempo and full organ in mind, it could also work with a slower tempo and more gentle registration.  Creativity is encouraged!  The recording was done on a two manual instrument with no registration changes, aside from a few measures played on the swell.

This toccata draws inspiration from the many written by Johann Pachelbel. The A section dances around the melody of the hymn tune Lambillotte commonly known as Come, Holy Ghost. The transition to the B section incorporates the pedal point technique commonly used by Pachelbel, as well as motifs that overlap and transfer from voice to voice. The transition leads to a lighter section in the dominant minor, after which the main theme is restated in bold chords, followed by a flashy ending. This piece is great for those who are pianist turned organists as the pedal part is easy to learn, and was written to be used on the Feast of Pentecost.

“These are written-out improvisations that were a part of the Good Friday noon liturgy at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. It is a service based on stations of the cross from the Anglican tradition, in our case, with a procession to each of nine stations.

At each station there is a mini-liturgy which consists of a reading, prayer, interpretive improvisation on the organ, and the singing of a stanza of a hymn. For the improvisation, I weave in images from the reading with the hymn. For example, at the sixth station, the reading includes the phrase “His yoke is easy�, and the hymn is “Go to Dark Gethsemane.� The improvisation alternates between the theme from the chorus “His yoke is easy� from Handel’s Messiah and a very dark and thick chordal setting of the hymn. The improvisations are full of imagery which are evocative and emotionally charged.�
