Note from the composer: This work was originally called Impromptu Variations on Amazing Grace. In 2016, I wrote half the variations and improvised the remaining ones. By 2019, I was determined to compose the rest so that they could be learned by other organists. I also changed the title to Six Settings for Organ on Amazing Grace because I mostly varied the accompaniments rather than the theme. What sets this work apart from other composers' versions is its key, G-flat major. Although it is rarely used in organ literature, it is a personal favorite key of mine, and I consider it a good challenge for the performing artist. Not only is the key unusual, but I have also incorporated some original idioms including a flutter figure on a light stop against the theme on a chime stop and a mysterious sounding introduction including chromatic scales. Aside from these original ideas, I have borrowed techniques from the works of Dave Brubeck, Chopin and Bach. .

A well known classic arranged as an organ solo in response to a request from a friend. The solo melody is played on the Great with the accompaniment played on the Swell and pedals. I have endeavoured to retain the flavour of the original arpeggio style accompaniment as far as it is practically possible. It is set out on four staves to avoid numerous clef changes and to actually make the score easier to read. This arrangement only requires two manuals.

A meditative organ prelude on the melody to which ’Morning Has Broken’ is often sung, consisting of flowing flute passages, which incorporate episodes of the well known Gaelic melody played on a softly voiced solo reed stop. It is written on four staves to make it easier to read because three staves required too many confusing clef changes and other indications on the score. It needs to be played with expression and feeling. However, if two staves are preferred, it is also the second variation of my 'Air and Variations On a Gaelic Melody', in which it is written on two staves.
