Organ solo - advanced to difficult - Digital Download

SKU: S9.Q20071

For Organ. Composed by Qi Zhang. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q20071. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20071).

“With their pure fresh aroma, the tea leaves meet the steaming water that gurgles down into the purple clay teapot. The leaves begin to dance a mystic step, sing a historical song, and celebrate a great time with their best friends. From commonplace tiny sticks, they are reborn as beautiful elves. They stretch their bodies, roll down to the bottom, and float up to the lip of the teapot. Affected by their happiness, the water utters a sweet, elated and joyful whisper. The story can be smelt, observed and felt by hearts.†Inspired by the Chinese history and culture of tea, I composed Symphony in the Teapot in 2005. Because there were very few pipe organs in China, this work was originally written for Electone Organ, an electronic instrument featuring orchestral and newly developed electronic sounds. In 2009, at the suggestion of Cherry Rhodes and Jean Guillou, I arranged this piece for pipe organ and played the European premiere in Église Saint-Eustache in Paris. (Qi Zhang).

By Angela Birkhead-Flight. By Angela Birkhead-Flight. Arranged by Angela Birkhead-Flight. Classical. Score. 7 pages. Angela Birkhead-Flight #780839. Published by Angela Birkhead-Flight (A0.1181009).

This toccata draws inspiration from the many written by Johann Pachelbel. The A section dances around the melody of the hymn tune Lambillotte commonly known as Come, Holy Ghost. The transition to the B section incorporates the pedal point technique commonly used by Pachelbel, as well as motifs that overlap and transfer from voice to voice. The transition leads to a lighter section in the dominant minor, after which the main theme is restated in bold chords, followed by a flashy ending. This piece is great for those who are pianist turned organists as the pedal part is easy to learn, and was written to be used on the Feast of Pentecost.

Canzona alla terza Verbum supernum prodiens was composed late one night after I was inspired by the chant melody as found in the Hymnal 1982, hymn 63. Rather than compose on the computer as I usually do, I wrote by hand as I determined the best four-part canonic treatment for each of the phrases of the chant. Composing this was akin to assembling a puzzle, both in mindset (this note fits best here) and addictive quality (need to finish this now!). Originally conceived as a short organ piece, I quickly chose to add the English text from the Hymnal 1982 then text directly from the Liber Usualis, a Catholic book of Gregorian chants commonly used until the reforms of the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II).

This piece is similar in style to an Italian Renaissance canzona or early German Baroque kanon. It should be performed with performance practice of those eras in mind, including lifts after dotted notes, metric accents, and minimal vibrato, especially at cadences. It may be performed in alternatum with one of the choral versions (SATB English, SATB Latin, SSA/TTB Latin, or SSA/TTB English) or with a soloist(s) on the chant or as an organ solo. I have provided the first line of chant below and all six verses in Latin with translations on the next page.

The SSA Latin version was adapted from the original SATB version for the women of the Hillcrest High School choral program under the direction of Dr. Khristi Motley in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It reduces the original four-voice setting to three voices without sacrificing any canonic entrances. Either the two-staff or single-staff version may be performed by solo organ. In the single-staff version, stem direction decisions were made primarily for readability, not to show voice leading. Refer to the four-part, two-staff version for voice leading questions.

Also available as SSA/TTB in Latin or English. SATB Latin/English versions coming soon!

Written in dedication to the wonderful clergy and staff at the United Methodist Church of Kent, WA, this organ setting of the beloved hymn tune Spanish Hymn (also known as Madrid) is perfect for a celebratory occasion, postlude, or a recital. Commonly sung to the words Come, Christians, Join to Sing, this joyful hymn tune has been skillfully arranged by Geoffrey Liu, featuring a wide variety of textures, voices, and key signatures. The music is accessible to the intermediate organist, featuring simple pedals throughout, but without sacrificing the energy and liveliness of the original tune.

Composed by Chris Kovarik. 21st Century,Classical,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Individual part. 13 pages. Chris Kovarik #985742. Published by Chris Kovarik (A0.1402521).

Prelude and fugue on Morning Song (composed 2019, duration ca. 6’ 30â€) is an expansive, if formally straight-forward prelude and fugue. The text ‘O holy city, seen of John,’ is commonly associated with this tune. The text contrasts the grim realities of early 20th Century cities with the idyllic Holy City, described by John in the Book of Revelation. The darkness of this vision is well-captured by the minor mode and relentless 4/4 rhythm of the original tune. These features are amplified in this prelude and fugue, particularly the inherently chromatic nature of the minor mode. This is an unrelentingly dark work that builds to an immense climax.

Technical note: this is a demanding work that requires superior technical ability.
