Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1406728 By Dr. Sheri L. Masiakowski. By Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF. Arranged by Dr. Sheri L. Masiakowski. 20th Century,Religious,Sacred. Score. 7 pages. School Sisters of St. Francis #989483. Published by School Sisters of St. Francis (A0.1406728). “The Spirit of the Lord† Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSFDedicated to Robert Verwoert on the occasion of his ordination to the priesthood — May 1971Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF earned her PhD in composition from the University of Rochester (Eastman School of Music) in 1955.  She is known for a variety of compositional genres, e.g. keyboard (organ and piano), voice, and orchestra. Compositions for voice include masses, responses, psalm settings, hymns for congregation, choral music and solos.TEXT:The Spirit of the Lord is upon us. Send your Spirit upon us in this time and place, the Spirit who gives us comfort, the Spirit who brings light to our eyes, the Spirit who helps us say yes to your summoning Word.Bless us, Father, as you have done before, with the gift of your Spirit that he may stir new life within us.Blest are you in ev'rything that your Spirit makes new, now and for all ages to come. The source of this text is unknown. Though appropriate for Pentecost there is no direct connection to the scripture readings or sacramentary prayers for that Feast. The composition was written in the early years succeeding Vatican II (October 11, 1962 – December 8, 1965), a time of creative freedom. The language is period specific to that time, yet the music is universal.Rehearsal recommendation:The verse text is notated in consistent eighth-notes. Do not interpret this to mean that all syllables are to receive equal time.  Speak the text in natural cadence and then sing the pitches in that same natural cadence.  This will best represent Sr. Theophane’s intention. We invite you to browse other creative works by the School Sisters of St. Francis on our website:  https://www.sssf.org/SSSF/Our-Global-Impact/United-States/Music-Ministry/Catalog-of-Music.htm  Further information about our offerings is available from Dr. Sheri Masiakowski, curator of the Heritage Music Collection, at smasiakowski@sssf.org.

Organ - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912505 Composed by Thomas R. Schadl. Concert,Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 29 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #6201739. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912505). Theme and Variations on TRSCH is a piece that is suitable for concert use. As one plays the piece, one shall realize that each variation has its own character. The work also may be used for educational purposes in that it teaches students on how a theme is transformed rhythmically and arranged melodically.Theme And Variations On TRSCH For Organ by Thomas R. Schadl consists of seven variations that are based on TRSCH (B flat, D, E flat, C, and B or A# D D# C B). It is written using the serial technique, the compositional method where a row of notes are arranged in direct, reverse, inverse and retrograde-inverse orders. The technique employed is not as strict as the 12-tone system used in the compositions of Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern. In a standard theme and variations form, the melody may be altered by adding or subtracting notes, or changing it rhythmically, but it is not the case in the piece being discussed. Most variations do not follow the rhythmic pattern of the main theme; rather, the theme in each variation is treated in fragments, lengthened note values, shortened note values, inversions and reversed orders. Each variation explores moods and the work is organized this way:Main Theme: m 1-6           TRSCH is stated in the bass.Variation I:     m 7-22         FugatoVariation II     m 23-50       Mystical quality and lyrical Variation III   m 51-88       Scherzo, lyrical section, scherzoVariation IV   m 89-116     ToccataVariation V     m 117-224   Mystical mood, scherzo, mystical moodVariation VI   m 225-297   Toccata, brief lyrical section, toccataVariation VII   m 298-317   Variation I but at a slower speed.Forward                           ReverseA# D D# C     B             F   F # A G# EF# A# B   G# G             C# D   F   E   CF   A   A# G   F#            C   C# E D#   BG# C   C# A# A             D# E   G F#   DA   C# D   B   A#            E   F   G# G   D#

Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912462 Composed by Thomas R. Schadl. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 8 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #514849. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912462). The Scherzo explores a variety of sections that have their own character. The first section is written in a North German toccata style where the opening measures are treated in a canonic manner and played in a series of thirds and sixths against the main theme stated in the pedal division; this compositional approach is somewhat reminiscent of the organ compositions of Dietrich Buxtehude (Prelude and Fugue in G Minor BUXWV 149). The second section is contrapuntal in nature and depicts a humorous moment; that moment may depict a comedy show or a circus event at a fair. Following that section is the recurrence of the main theme of the first movement. The fourth section is quiet in sound intensity and is the most chromatically oriented than other parts. Following that is a fugue, derived from the main theme of the first movement, and a transitional passage leading back to the recurring main theme. The work concludes triumphantly in the key of G Major. The Scherzo requires attention to articulation, phrasing and timing. This work is suitable for educational and recital uses: it introduces organ students to major works of Buxtehude and Johann S. Bach and many more composers; organists of various expertise may play the work to lighten up the audience's mood after listening to more difficult organ works. Let this work bring pleasure into your hearts and the listeners'. Enjoy it.

Organ - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45410 Für Orgel. Composed by Christian Jost. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 15 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45410. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45410). There is no other work more closely associated with the organ than Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata in D minor. During my compositional preparation, I repeatedly found myself returning to this work. I had a number of different formal models in mind, but felt myself gravitating towards the rhapsodic character of toccata form so that my new composition for organ ultimately became a toccata developing from a pedal point on the fundamental note ’D’. As is appropriate to the volume of a large modern organ, my concept focuses on symphonic tonal layers whose suggestive maelstrom originates from the inner strength of repeating elements and their register- like augmentation, culminating in the unleashing of polyrhythmic progressions. Organ - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1449568 Composed by Felicity Mazur-Park. 21st Century,Contemporary,Early Music,Religious,Renaissance. Score. 12 pages. Felicity Mazur-Park #1029321. Published by Felicity Mazur-Park (A0.1449568). Composed by Felicity Mazur-Park for performance by David Aaron Preston in fulfillment of the 2024 American Guild of Organists Student Commissioning Project.Ti Appartengo is based on Carlo Gesualdo's madrigal Io Parto e Non Più Dissi, which was written before, but published after Gesualdo's famous murder of his adulterous wife and her lover. In the madrigal, Gesualdo pronounces that he is leaving, but later decides not to leave when he sees that his wife (referenced as the mythological Chloris) is sad and depressed at the prospect of his absence. She is dependent on his love for her personal happiness. In essence, she belongs to him, as my work's title suggests. Compositionally, I segment portions of the madrigal and its text. I add quartal and quintal harmonies and develop selected motivic fragments through retrograde, inversion, and sequencing to paint the drama.
