Organ - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.10-365-1E Composed by David M. Cherwien. Lent, Triduum/Three Days, Tenebrae. Instrument part. 2 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #10-365-1E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.10-365-1E). “These are written-out improvisations that were a part of the Good Friday noon liturgy at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. It is a service based on stations of the cross from the Anglican tradition, in our case, with a procession to each of nine stations. At each station there is a mini-liturgy which consists of a reading, prayer, interpretive improvisation on the organ, and the singing of a stanza of a hymn. For the improvisation, I weave in images from the reading with the hymn. For example, at the sixth station, the reading includes the phrase “His yoke is easyâ€, and the hymn is “Go to Dark Gethsemane.†The improvisation alternates between the theme from the chorus “His yoke is easy†from Handel’s Messiah and a very dark and thick chordal setting of the hymn. The improvisations are full of imagery which are evocative and emotionally charged.â€-David CherwienThis unified set represents nine Stations of the Cross, but the pieces can also be used individually as preludes, hymn introductions, or worship interludes. A special reproducible liturgy Good Friday: The Way of The Cross by Susan Palo Cherwien is also included.

Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.744716 Composed by Phil Lehenbauer. Classical,Contemporary,Renaissance,Sacred,Traditional. Score. 19 pages. Phil Lehenbauer #6080713. Published by Phil Lehenbauer (A0.744716). This is the complete suite for trombone and organ, with movements- 1. Fanfare, 2. Aria on Amazing Grace, and 3. Renaissance Gladness.  This is written for the younger, less-experienced player, as all three movements feature limited range, repeated rhythmic motives, and easy key signatures.  For example, movement 2. Aria only uses the first three positions!  Now you have an accessible work to feature that young musician, whether for church services, special events, or recitals.  Complete videos of all three movements are on the YouTube channel of OrganGuyPhil (the composer).  Each movement is also available separately here on SMP.

Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.846373 Composed by Christopher Evans. Contemporary,Sacred,Wedding. Score. 4 pages. Christopher Evans #5776541. Published by Christopher Evans (A0.846373). An air and four contrasting variations on ’Brother James’ Air’, a hymn tune composed by James Leith Bain, who was a Scottish minister at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century and known as Brother James. The first three variations are in the style of John Stanley, the fourth variation is a two part canon. Although the suggested stop registration is for three manuals and is only a guide. All movements only require a small number of light stops and therefore can very effectively be played on a small two manual instrument.

Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.763737 Composed by Nigel Williams. Contemporary,Easter,Lent,Sacred. Score. 2 pages. Nigel Williams #6431035. Published by Nigel Williams (A0.763737). Based on the opening verse of psalm 130, and freely composed using a 12 note scale, and brilliantly performed here by Carson Cooman. To help understand the structure of the piece, the 12 note row is seen in the first three measures and you can see how that pattern works throughout the piece. The angular melodic material combined with the dramatic cluster chords paints a vivid picture of 'the Deep'. While this music would sound well on a larger instrument, this music can easily be performed on a two manual organ with pedals. If you are also interested in my organ arrangements you may enjoy browsing my many hymn arrangements for organ on the Lorenz website as well as my trumpet and organ arrangements on SMP.

Organ - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q48165 On the Introit of the Feast of the Epiphany. Composed by Naji Hakim. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 8 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q48165. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q48165). English • Danish. This toccata is based on the introit to the Christian Epiphany festival and solemnly announces the appearance of the Lord. As a toccata, the work is an introduction to Hakim's Adoration (Schott, ED 22614) for voice, flute and organ, a paraphrase of the first three introitus to Epiphany. The Toccata develops a series of symphonic variations with virtuoso movements that emphasize the expressiveness of the words of the Gregorian text: Ecce advenit dominator dominus: et regnum in manu ejus, et potestas, et empium. Deus, judicium tuum regi da: et justitiam tuam Filio regis. ( Behold, the Lord, the ruler, comes: and the kingdom is in his hand, and the power and the dominion. God, give your judicial office to the king: and yours Justice to the son of the king. ) (Malachi 3: 1, I Chronicles 29:12, Psalm 71: 1, 10, 11).

Organ - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q52740 Version for organ by Leif Thybo (1952). Composed by Igor Stravinsky. Arranged by Leif Thybo. This edition: single sheet. Downloadable, Separate edition. Duration 15 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q52740. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q52740). Key: E flat major. The American musical patrons Mildred and Robert Wood Bliss were considering which distinguished composer to commission to create a work in celebration of their 30th wedding anniversary in 1938. The couple had made the acquaintance of Igor Stravinsky in April the preceding year at the première of his ballet Jeu de Cartes in New York and had subsequently invited the composer to their country home ’Dumbarton Oaks’ in Washington D.C. to talk about a new composition. Stravinsky only just managed to complete the work in time for the anniversary celebrations: its date of completion was also the date of its first performance. For his classically styled three-movement work, he selected the title Concerto in E flat, adding the subtitle Dumbarton Oaks as a dedication. The structure of the work references the concerto grosso: it features a soloist ensemble which unites in the tutti sequences but also plays in concertino groups during the solo episodes. Broken chordal structures characterise the central movement whereas the outer movements are distinguished through their use of fugato. Dumbarton Oaks went on to become one of Stravinsky’s most successful works, performed widely and delighting Mildred Bliss so much that she immediately issued another commission, for the Symphony in C. Its composer’s very public commitment to American cultural life helped pave the way for Stravinsky’s emigration to the USA in 1945. As early as 1952 Leif Thybo created an arrangement for organ which Stravinsky probably did not know at the time of his life.Inspired by Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, Igor Stravinsky’s three-movement concerto ‘Dumbarton Oaks’ is a musical monument to two major American patrons: Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss commissioned this work to mark the 30th anniversary of their wedding. It was performed for the first time at a private celebration at their country house Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C. under the direction of Nadia Boulanger in 1938. As early as 1952 Leif Thybo created an arrangement for organ which Stravinsky probably did not know at the time of his life.

Schott Music - Digital #Q43163. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q43163). The sonata premiered in 2016 is based on the Luther chorale Komm, Gott Schöpfer, Heiliger Geist (Come, God Creator, Holy Spirit) and consists of three parts: 'The first movement transforms the first eight notes of the chorale melody into a virtuoso figurative movement, the second movement presents the complete chorale in a highly chromatic harmonization. The concluding fugue is treated in three development sections becoming successively more animated in rhythm and dynamics.' (Stefan Heucke).

Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773995 Composed by William B. Bradbury. Arranged by Anthony Giamanco. Concert,Contemporary,Sacred,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Whole Tone Press #6302583. Published by Whole Tone Press (A0.773995). The Solid Rock utilses fragments of the well-known hymn tune to create a powerful, original modern work for organ solo. Beginning quietly, introspectively, on manuals alone, at first employing a 5-note, then a 4-note motive, hinting at the first four measures of the hymn tune, slowing building to the finale which begins fortissimo, with grandeur, now echoing the first four measures of the hymn tune's refrain. Here the pedal finally enters, encompassing merely three different pitches (A, D and E). The piece ends with a strong flourish on an E6(add 9) chord, adding a 32' reed in the pedal. An impressive, but moderately easy work for church and concert. Anthony Giamanco is a member of ASCAP. His many piano, organ, choir, and chamber works are in the catalogs of numerous publishers including GIA, Shawnee Press, Alfred, Augsburg Fortress, Lorenz, and others. Organ - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.912504 Composed by Thomas R. Schadl. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 17 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #5303799. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912504). The Finale from Sonata In C For Organ is suitable for recital use, and may be used for teaching students on techniques of incorporating thematic materials from other movements or other works to their compositions. This last movement opens with a slow and quiet registration, depicting an anticipation of some good event to come. One may associate this section (measure 1 to 51) with the expectation of Christ’s resurrection from the dead. The theme opens with a motivic variation of bugle theme that was stated in the first movement of the sonata. The exposition part of this work begins at measure 52, where the TRSCH motive repeats continuously in the pedal part against the main theme. Other thematic materials from previous movements occur in this movement. From measure 111 to 118, the first theme from the first movement appears against the main theme of this movement, and the former one is restated at bar 182 to 185. The second theme from the scherzo movement appears against the main theme of this movement at bar 120 to 123. The final section of the piece that commences from measure 195 to 211 contains the TRSCH motive, stated in the pedal part; the motive, originally written in quarter-note notation, is augmented rhythmically to whole note notation, giving one an impression of triumphant splendor. What brings the sonata to a triumphant close is that the TRSCH motive is stated three times, using the full organ registration.  I hope that you enjoy this work.
