Composed by Steven Nisbet. Christian,Contemporary,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score. 21 pages. Steven Nisbet #6111007. Published by Steven Nisbet (A0.884998).

Wesley Suite The world is my parish, a set of four contrasting pieces for organ, is a tribute to John and Charles Wesley, 18th century clergymen and co-founders of the Methodist Church.

The title Wondering Soul is a reference to the first line of the Wesleys’ Conversion Hymn, Where shall my wondering soul begin? which was written after John Wesley’s Aldersgate Street experience in which he felt his heart was strangely warmed.

Wesley’s Gallop paints a musical picture of John Wesley riding on horseback around the towns and villages of England, preaching the Gospel in churches, halls, fields, cottages and chapels.

Chapel Prayer is a reflective piece referring to Wesley’s Chapel in City Road, London, a Methodist Church built under the direction of John Wesley.

The word Liberty in the title of Liberty Fanfare refers to John Wesley’s advocacy for the abolition of slavery. He wrote, Liberty is the right of every human creature. The piece contains musical references to two well-known hymns – (i)  Amazing Grace, the words of which were written by his fellow abolitionist, friend and mentor, John Newton, as well as (ii) And can it be, the words of which were written by Charles Wesley.

Composed by John Burkett. Arranged by John Burkett. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 15 pages. John Burkett #935708. Published by John Burkett (A0.1350883).

My Variations on Holiness (Take Time to Be Holy) require a wide range of technical prowess from near beginner (Variation II) to advanced (Variation IV).  The Theme presents the unadorned hymn tune, but with a new harmonization.  Variation I is a canon in which the imitative entries for each phrase occur at varying intervals.  In Variation II (for the hands only) the unadorned tune is accompanied by an unrelenting stream of sixteenth notes in the relative minor key.  In Variation III (entitled Pastorale) each phrase of the tune is preceded by a freely composed introductory segment.  The final variation (entitled Toccata) is by far the most challenging.  It moves at a rapid tempo in 5/8 meter with individual phrases of the tune appearing sporadically, often in an ornamented guise.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

My Variations on the hymn tune St. Elizabeth (Fairest Lord Jesus) present the tune with an original harmonization followed by four variations.  The first two settings (Theme and Variation I) give out the tune in unaltered form, undergirded by two different harmonizations.  Variation II is a duo cast in baroque style with an ornamented melody accompanied by a rhythmically repetitive pattern in the manual bass.  In Variation III, a continuously moving accompaniment played by the feet and the left hand provides a backdrop to another ornamented version of the hymn tune, again in a somewhat baroque style.  The final variation is more challenging to play.  After a brief introduction, the tune appears in the soprano voice, harmonically supported by the alto and pedal bass, while the left hand provides a continuous stream of eighth-note triplets.  After a couple of modulations, the final section (marked grandioso) presents the tune with a 4-voice harmonization punctuated at the end of each phrase by a trumpet-like rhythmic pattern played on a state trumpet stop.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

Composed by John Burkett. Arranged by John Burkett. Christmas,Classical,Religious,Sacred. Score. 10 pages. John Burkett #920937. Published by John Burkett (A0.1335092).

The three movements of this composition are based on the Christmas carol tune Mueller, also known as Away in a Manger.  While each movement can be performed separately, my intention is that all the movements be played as a unit.  This composition was conceived with a 3-manual organ in  mind.  While the Prelude and Canon are relatively easy, the Fugue is more challenging, as it requires numerous changes of stop combinations via preset pistons.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  This piece is one among several arrangements in my Christmas Carol Series, which includes a number of settings for piano.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for still other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and some for piano.

Composed by John Burkett. Arranged by John Burkett. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 5 pages. John Burkett #934452. Published by John Burkett (A0.1349683).

My Prelude on the hymn tune Revive Us Again (We Praise Thee O God) was conceived for a three-manual organ and has a somewhat challenging pedal part.  The harmonic idiom reflects the influence of certain 20th century techniques (such as building chords by fourths), which create a sound world that, while still tonal, embraces somewhat greater dissonance than traditional practice allowed.  Modern ears though are accustomed to, and even enjoy, such sounds.  The introduction and interludes are based upon a rhythmic motive taken from the hymn tune, which itself is treated canonically at one point.  In another instance, even two different phrases are vertically combined.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.
