This 4:50 minute dramatic piece is a great prelude, special music or offertory.  Requires right hand to play two manuals simultaneously:  Effective yet moderately intermediate with gentle pace with difficulty being the reaching for playing two keyboards simultaneously for right hand.  Starts soft, opening phrase is intertwined between various placements representing God's leading and ends with big presentation of the hymn demonstrating the joy of God having led through life and difficult times.  Note orchestral instruments better represents the various use of keyboards and melody placements.

Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! One of the soundtracks that I get asked to perform most regularly is Test Drive by John Powell. This is one of the earlier transcriptions I wrote, and I often use it as a piece to illustrate the difference between different organs. It’s quite useful to have one piece to use as a comparison point, so I post little videos of this wherever I’m playing to demonstrate how radically different the same piece of music can sound depending on the kind of instrument. For me, this piece feels like an instant serotonin boost. There is a great crescendo where you get to take the organ from relatively quiet to earth-shatteringly loud over the course of about 30 seconds, and I always say that playing that part feels a bit like flying a dragon! - Anna Lapwood

This arrangement allows the performer to provide a very effective, emotionally charged rendering of this really beautiful music which has had a well-deserved renaissance following its use in the 2017 film 'Call Me By Your Name'.  The romantic treatment is in the tradition of Virgil Fox's famous version of Bach's Come, Sweet Death (BWV 478).  The simpler Adagissimo makes fewer technical demands on the player but a sensitive performance will be similarly engaging for an audience.  Detailed editorial markings make this a great piece for students to learn how to use nuance to great musical effect - the notes are simple to play in themselves but careful, musical phrasing makes all the difference in performance, including for the concluding Pedal solo.  It's a good recital piece for demonstrating different facets of a medium/large instrument but its simplicity also make it a very useful piece for playing on even the smallest organ.  The highly engaging, mournful tone makes it a useful addition to Holy Week repertoire or for funerals.

I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! We all have those pieces of music that have a strong, almost formative, childhood memory associated with them, and Chevaliers De Sangreal is one of those pieces for me. I vividly remember watching the film for the first time with my family, hearing the music and feeling an incredible emotional response to it. I wanted to work out how the music worked, so I sat in bed with a torch and manuscript paper, writing out the harmony, and trying to understand how Hans Zimmer achieved such emotion through repetition and orchestration. Every time I play this I get reminded of the goosebumps I felt hearing it for the first time.  - Anna Lapwood.

New Organ Music for 2024!  STORM is a Toccata for Pipe Organ.  Its main theme is consisting of sextuplets which should be played in both hands fifty-fifty and a sonorous theme in the pedal and it sounds like... a summer storm.There are suggestions for the registration in the sheet music, but as always they are meant to be guidelines - choose which stops fit your organ best. If you have two manuals start with the Grand Orgue forte and switch two times to the Swells (or whatever you have) with a mezzoforte mix of stops. Born and raised in Cyprus, an isolated Mediterranean island-state in Europe where the religious musical tradition (Greek Orthodox Christianity) relies solely on voices (no instruments used during services), I never had access to an Organ. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, there’s not a single Organ in my entire country. The first time I ever saw one was during my college years in New York – and it was love at first sight! I was fascinated by its sound capabilities, its mechanism, and the sheer skill required to play it. You can, therefore, understand how thrilled I am to have had the opportunity to write for this great instrument. I would like to sincerely thank Shannon Murphy and Austin Philemon for believing in my work, and for commissioning this piece. Both the Toccata and the Fugue are based on the same (but altered) motivic materials. The Toccata is a piece that was inspired by the idea that life is a continuous marathon, represented by the ‘mechanical’ sixteenth-note ostinato figure which never stops – despite the contrapuntal obstacles that are thrown within its path. The motive, however, does transform and adapt along the way, in order to make the best of the situation.  The Fugue, on the other hand, represents the cerebral aspect of life: the concept of choices. The ostinato motive of the Toccata has now morphed into the subject of the Fugue, which will be attacked by some violent chromatic enemies.
