Vocalise (Op.34, No.14) was originally composed in 1912, later orchestrated by Rachmaninoff in 1929.  In this popular arrangement for organ by Marcus Wibberley, the orchestral colours and singing qualities of the organ are showcased.  It is of moderate difficulty, very accessible and can be used in a range of contexts - recitals, church services, weddings and funerals, as well as teaching material for schools and organ pupils.

The audio sample is a recording of this arrangement, played by Marcus Wibberley (the arranger) in a public recital in York Minster in 2004.

La califfa (English: Lady Caliph) is a 1970 Franco-Italian social drama film written and directed by Alberto Bevilacqua. It was entered into the 1971 Cannes Film Festival.  The score is by E. Morricone and this arrangement for 2 manual church organ is suitable for many occasions such as quiet voluntaries, weddings and funerals.

This is a little known, but attractive short work from Elgar's late period written for solo piano in 1932. Not to be confused with his earlier 'Sernade for Strings'.   It makes an attractive short  organ solo for recital or religious service use.  It was dedicated to John Austin a friend and editor of Elgar's music.

Swiss born German composer Joachim Raff (1822-82) was very prolific, and by the end of his life was one of the best known German composers, though his work is largely forgotten today. Only one piece, a cavatina originally for violin and piano, is performed   regularly today. This transcription for Pipe Organ is a useful addition to that instrument's romantic repertoire and suitable for recitals and also for general church use.  It requires a 2 or 3 manual organ with pedals.

This organ arrangement of the Romance from William Lloyd Webber's Serenade for Strings is illustrative of his superb gift of romantic melody. Suitable for inclusion in religious services or concert occasions, it is playable on a two manual instrument, although a 3 manual organ would be an advantage for concert performances.

Charles Williams (1893 - 1978),was a British composer and conductor who contributed music to over 50 films and wrote a considerable amount of light music, including 'Devil's Galop'.  'While I Live' is a 1947 British drama film,  best remembered for its musical theme The Dream of Olwen composed by Charles Williams, which became hugely popular in its time and is still regularly performed. Orginally for piano and orchestra this verssion is for a 2 manual organ with pedals. It is playable on a Church instrument or equally suitable for a home  instrument, or organ club recitals.

Con te partirò or 'Time to Say Goodbye' is an Italian song written with music by Francesco Sartori. It was first performed by Andrea Bocelli at the 1995 Sanremo Music Festival, but the more famous version -  Bocelli duetting with Sarah Brightman - dates from a year later. Over the years this piece has become extremely popular for inclusion at funeral and memorial services and this organ version will be useful for that purpose amongst others. It requires a two manual organ with pedals although suggestions are included for a larger instrument if available.

Mors et vita is an oratorio in three parts by Charles Gounod premiered at the Birmingham Festival in 1885. It was conceived as a sequel to La rédemption (1882). From the score the chorus 'Judex' has become a very popular solo item for orchestra. Here arranged for Church Organ as a solo,  it is a useful introductory or communion  voluntary.

'Invocation' was composed in 1957 for Chamber Orchestra and demonstrates the essentially English romantic melodic style of William Lloyd-Webber.   This arrangement for Organ is idea  as an introductory voluntary or an interesting short 3 minute rectial item, where it could usefully be paired with his 'Romance' from 'Serenade for Strings' (pub. ref. 901914).

This opening movement from 'Slovak Suite' by Czech composer VítÄ›zslav Novák has recently enjoyed an increase in popularity. In the orchestral original, the Organ takes a prominent role, and this transcription for solo Organ offers many opportunities for the performer to demonstrate the full capabilities of the instrument. Ideally suited to a 3 manual instrument this could be played on a 2 manual organ and at 7 mins length would be a useful postlude or recital item.
