This popular early American folk hymn is arranged for organ. It is notated on three staves and playable on any two manual and Pedal instrument. There are a number of registration possibilities for the Variation, any expressive solo 8' stop will work for the left hand, and a clear 8' flute for the right hand.

Built on a 12 note row (visible in the first two bars), and composed in 1996. This movement is in ternary form with fugal sections at the 9th and 40th measure. He shall feed me in a green pasture, and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort. The second verse of Psalm 23 provides the inspiration for this gentle and contemplative chorale with three short variations, The melodic and harmonic language is both modal and modern. The same solo stop can be used for each of the three variations, alternatively, as Carson Cooman demonstrates in this youtube recording, different registrations can be used, depending on what is available. This chorale is sung to the texts Faithful shepherd feed me, and Faithful vigil ended . Appropriate any time during the year and especially during Candlemass. This gentle and contemplative arrangement is playable on a two manual organ, the chorale enters first in the manuals, and secondly in the Pedal where a singing 4' solo stop is required. Based on the opening verse of psalm 130, and freely composed using a 12 note scale, and brilliantly performed here by Carson Cooman. To help understand the structure of the piece, the 12 note row is seen in the first three measures and you can see how that pattern works throughout the piece. The angular melodic material combined with the dramatic cluster chords paints a vivid picture of 'the Deep'. While this music would sound well on a larger instrument, this music can easily be performed on a two manual organ with pedals. Joy To The World, for organ, an arrangement of the familiar melody Antioch. The melody by Lowell Mason was inspired by the music of Handel. This arrangement has been written mainly for manuals but with an easy pedal part. This setting of the tune will make a welcome addition to your Christmas repertoire. The digital sound file lacks proper organ registrations, but allows you to imagine how you could register this music on your instrument. If you do not have an 8' trumpet available, use Gt 8'4' with sesquialtera for the solo and Sw 8'4'(2') for the accompaniment. The score is two pages with a performance time of a little under two minutes. (See also my other arrangements, including 'Jingle Bells'. This well known hymn melody arranged for organ is suitable as either a prelude or a postlude during the Advent and Christmas season. Because it is sung to a variety of texts it is also suitable during Easter. The chorale melody is in the Pedal in long notes, making this arrangement not too difficult to play, but very effective. Also known as Luther's Cradle Hymn (tune Mueller), this American Christmas carol melody is much admired. This new arrangement for organ sees the melody in the right hand with gentle 'cradle rocking' left hand 8th notes above the held pedal notes anchoring the slow moving harmony. The end result is a gentle, reflective and musically satisfying arrangement of a much loved Christmas carol. Use an expressive 8' stop to solo the melody and balance it against an open 8' flute (or 8' and 4' flutes if the 8' is too quiet). Couple the left hand to a quiet 16' Pedal stop. These two variations for organ are both captivating, the first variation has the chorale melody in the left hand with upward (heavenly) moving right hand accompaniment. The second variation is very much in the early baroque style of Pachelbel, with the chorale melody in the pedals and the two hands playing an elaborate counter-melody, but in a manner that is not difficult to perform. These two variations can be played separately or as a set and would make a fine voluntary to conclude any worship service, especially around Thanksgiving. They also make excellent teaching material for those new to playing the organ.
