This is another in a series of works for the younger or less experienced instrumentalist, with a limited range, easy rhythms, and an easily playable organ part that provides great support to the young player. In addition to the trombone and organ parts, there is a treble clef part provided that can be used by a trumpet, baritone, or tenor sax player. It was written and recorded on a two manual instrument, with the composer playing both parts (thanks to the organ's MIDI recorder). I hope you will feature the younger players in your church!

These are very early works, sins of my youth, as the saying goes. They are written in a faux-baroque style and would be very accessible to all but the fussiest congregations. The hymn tunes involved are (1) We Gather Together [KREMSER], (2) Come, Ye Thankful People [ST. GEORGE’S WINDSOR], and (3) Now Thank We All Our God [NUN DANKET]. They are especially appropriate for the Thanksgiving season, but would not be out of place at any time of the year. These two variations for organ are both captivating, the first variation has the chorale melody in the left hand with upward (heavenly) moving right hand accompaniment. The second variation is very much in the early baroque style of Pachelbel, with the chorale melody in the pedals and the two hands playing an elaborate counter-melody, but in a manner that is not difficult to perform. These two variations can be played separately or as a set and would make a fine voluntary to conclude any worship service, especially around Thanksgiving. They also make excellent teaching material for those new to playing the organ.
