Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century,Concert,Halloween. Score. 16 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #5739561. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534661).

Over the years 1908–16, Debussy had produced a viable scenario for Usher on his third attempt. But
when he came to making a complete draft of the music, he seems to have lost interest during Roderick
Usher’s long monologue, even though he was setting his own text. As in No-ja-li he jumped to the next
passage that interested him, in this case the exciting final melodrama and the collapse of the Usher house itself.

In the process of completing the missing half of the score, I discovered that by reusing Debussy’s material for similar psychological situations across the opera, and by metamorphosing existing ideas (as Debussy does with Mélisande’s theme in his opera Pelléas et Mélisande), the only things I really needed to add were linking material and any passages where fast music was required. So the ‘nightmare scherzo’, and Lady Madeline’s escape from her coffin and her final bloody revenge on her brother are all mine, but most of the rest is existing Debussy in changing contexts (in which the Russian technique of ‘changing backgrounds’, both harmonic and textural, proved extremely useful, as it did to Debussy in his Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune). Eventually, both my completed ballet No-ja-li and the House of Usher were successfully premiered in 2006 and the latter soon began to find its way into the established repertoire in Europe and the US. To further support this, I transcribed some of the highlights of Debussy’s score as A Night in the House of Usher for organ, and subsequently piano—with a focus on Scene 2 and the final, horrific and maca-bre melodrama. This climaxes in the double deaths of Roderick Usher and his Sister Madeline, together with the disintegration of the ill-fated House of Usher into the stagnant lake-all beneath a blood-red moon.In this form it was first performed by Ian Buckle in the Howard Assembly Rooms, Leeds in 2010.

Composed by Thomas R. Schadl. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score. 16 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #1910845. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912466).

Written in E, the work consist of two themes that have hymn-like and chorale qualities interspersed with lighthearted passages that depict the strength and weakness of human nature. The first theme resembles a melody of the ancient church; the melody has a mystical quality depicting God's majesty. The transition is light in content as it gives a listener a break from the serious mood of the first theme. The second theme is a chorale and is chordal in texture; it resembles a church hymn sung in many churches. Moreover, the second theme is written in B Flat Major, depicting one's praising God in spirit; the general mood is quiet. Following that section is the transition that gradually builds up excitement before the restatement of the first theme. The second theme is restated in E Major, but its longer note values are placed over the repeated bass and chordal patterns, a style that many composers use in their works, including Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire Du Soldat. Once again, the lighthearted transitional passage recurs before the chimes start to strike four times. Following the chimes, the chorale is stated in E Major and begins quietly and builds up power as the work nears its ending; the chorale, unlike its first statement depicts the singing of praise with joy. This piece may be performed in concert halls and churches; it could give people fond memories of recitalists who enjoy bringing excitement to the public.

Composed by Thomas R. Schadl. Christian,Concert,Contemporary,Spiritual,Standards. Score. 23 pages. Thomas R. Schadl #6519109. Published by Thomas R. Schadl (A0.912512).

Based on Matthew 28:30 and Psalm 16, the piece is about hope in God’s presence in our hearts. From the beginning of the piece to the hymn section, one shall hear a minimalistic trait in the accompaniment. The opening part also contains a melody that paints a darker picture of life, but gradually builds up excitement toward the section where my arrangement of the famous hymn ALL MY HOPE ON GOD IS FOUNDED by Herbert Howells (1891-1982) is stated. After the playing of the hymn, the piece becomes gradually quieter until the end, symbolizing the assurance of peace and love. Organ registrations and tempo indications are only suggestions. The piece is suitable for recital purposes and may be performed in church-related events.

Composed by John Burkett. Arranged by John Burkett. Christmas,Classical,Religious,Sacred. Score. 10 pages. John Burkett #920937. Published by John Burkett (A0.1335092).

The three movements of this composition are based on the Christmas carol tune Mueller, also known as Away in a Manger.  While each movement can be performed separately, my intention is that all the movements be played as a unit.  This composition was conceived with a 3-manual organ in  mind.  While the Prelude and Canon are relatively easy, the Fugue is more challenging, as it requires numerous changes of stop combinations via preset pistons.  I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.  This piece is one among several arrangements in my Christmas Carol Series, which includes a number of settings for piano.  I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for still other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and some for piano.

SKU: A0.1379795

Composed by Alfred Hildebrandt Sorensen. Arranged by Niels-Ole Bo Johansen. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Individual part. 4 pages. Gordon Cherry #964499. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1379795).

The Nocturne for Trombone and Organ by Alfred Hildebrandt Sørensen was most likely written while he studied violin and composition at the Copenhagen Conservatory of Music from 1903-1905. It was dedicated to trombonist Anton Hansen, who performed it for the first time at the Tivoli Concert Hall on August 8th, 1918, and then at the King's Garden at the Copenhagen Municipality's Free Concerts, undoubtedly in arrangements for symphony orchestra and wind band respectively.

This very expressive work, beautifully edited by Niels-Ole Bo Johansen is suitable for intermediate performers as it is all in bass clef and of modest technique and range.

The material is from Anton Hansen's sheet music collection in the Royal Library in Copenhagen.

The work has been beautifully recorded by Mr. Johansen and organist Ulrik Spang-Hanssen (sample below on YouTube) as part of The Danish Trombone Heritage, a 2-CD album of over twenty original works from the early 20th Century composed by Danish composers for Professor Hansen.

Cherry Classics with Mr. Johansen will be publishing all of these works.

Composed by Alex Gibson, Hans Florian Zimmer, and Ryan Romeyn Rubin. Arranged by Anna Lapwood. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV. Individual part. 29 pages. Anna Lapwood #904082. Published by Anna Lapwood (A0.1316991).

Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them!

I think the Interstellar soundtrack has done more to popularise the organ than anything or anyone else! I’ve chosen three of my favourite cues from the film and put them together into a suite. It can be performed in any order, with the pieces played one after the other or scattered throughout a recital programme.
