Organ - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534661 Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century,Concert,Halloween. Score. 16 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #5739561. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534661). Over the years 1908–16, Debussy had produced a viable scenario for Usher on his third attempt. But when he came to making a complete draft of the music, he seems to have lost interest during Roderick Usher’s long monologue, even though he was setting his own text. As in No-ja-li he jumped to the next passage that interested him, in this case the exciting final melodrama and the collapse of the Usher house itself. In the process of completing the missing half of the score, I discovered that by reusing Debussy’s material for similar psychological situations across the opera, and by metamorphosing existing ideas (as Debussy does with Mélisande’s theme in his opera Pelléas et Mélisande), the only things I really needed to add were linking material and any passages where fast music was required. So the ‘nightmare scherzo’, and Lady Madeline’s escape from her coffin and her final bloody revenge on her brother are all mine, but most of the rest is existing Debussy in changing contexts (in which the Russian technique of ‘changing backgrounds’, both harmonic and textural, proved extremely useful, as it did to Debussy in his Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune). Eventually, both my completed ballet No-ja-li and the House of Usher were successfully premiered in 2006 and the latter soon began to find its way into the established repertoire in Europe and the US. To further support this, I transcribed some of the highlights of Debussy’s score as A Night in the House of Usher for organ, and subsequently piano—with a focus on Scene 2 and the final, horrific and maca-bre melodrama. This climaxes in the double deaths of Roderick Usher and his Sister Madeline, together with the disintegration of the ill-fated House of Usher into the stagnant lake-all beneath a blood-red moon.In this form it was first performed by Ian Buckle in the Howard Assembly Rooms, Leeds in 2010.

Organ - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45183 Martin Luther. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 24 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45183. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45183). On the occasion of the quincentenary of Reformation Day in 2017, the composer Enjott Schneider thoroughly studied Martin Luther the individual and all his contradictions. The result is a brilliant, demanding organ symphony which is perfect for concerts on the subject of Reformation and Martin Luther. The composer describes the five movements of the symphony as follows: '1st movement: Wir glauben all an einen Gott with its quintuplet-like beginning is very Gregorian in style, outlining the range of Lutheran emotionalism between the Middle Ages and the modern era. The irrationality of faith ultimately has priority over any thought and evidence. At the beginning of the movement, sounds of knocking on wood remind of the nailing of the Ninety-Five Theses to the doors of churches in Wittenberg. The chorale melody sometimes hides with an almost rough medieval saltarello, referring to Luther's robustness and vitality with which he knew to carry away even common people. 2nd movement: In 1530, the electoral prince of Saxony presented to Luther at Coburg Castle the golden signet ring with the Luther rose which became the symbol of his theology of grace. A white heart with black cross is fixed on a five-petalled rose. To him, white is the colour of angels and ghosts, black stands for the pain of crucification: The just shall live by faith, but by faith in the Crucified. But the fact that the rose and the heart are the dominating symbols shows how Catholic Marian piety remained an ingredient of Luther's spirituality throughout his life. In line with the dominant five-petal structure of the rose, this movement was composed, to a large extent, in accordance with the floating, lyrical rhythm in 5/8 time. 3rd movement: The omnipresence of death and dying – from the plague and war to the never-ending dangers of daily life – was an essential part of the world view of that time. Fears ensued that might heighten into the grotesque, e.g. in the pictures of Hieronymus Bosch. The Danse macabre was a popular motif in those years. Luther's chorale Mitten wir im Leben sind / mit dem Tod umfangen from 1524 (Enchiridion from Erfurt) is based on the Gregorian chant Media vita in morte sumus created in France around 750 and, with its idea of transience, inspired a simplistic air. 4th movement: The famous confession delivered at the Diet of Worms in 1521, I stand here and can say no more. God help me. Amen, are not Luther's words but the version later used as text for a pamphlet. However, it represents quite plainly the straightforwardness and inevitability of his mission. Musically, it was made into a perpetuum mobile, i.e. a dogged, ostinato and never-ending musical air. 5th movement: The Mighty Fortress, on the other hand, is one of the great symbols of Martin Luther which, with its shining C major key, embodies the Protestant ideology and willful nature of the Reformation unlike any other song. Heinrich Heine called it the Marseille anthem of the Reformation, Friedrich Engels the Marseillaise of the Peasants' Wars. This disputability is not thought through to the end but rather interrupted: With a jubilant birdcall version of the melody, the finale shows a rather chamber-music-like side of the ideals of freedom of Christians.'.

Organ - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7013 Te Deum. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: Sheet music. Die 6. Orgelsinfonie Te Deum übernimmt die Fünfergliederung und einige Motive aus Bruckners Te Deum, um daraus ein kompaktes von Wucht und Gotteslob erfülltes Werk zu werden. Downloadable. Duration 28 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q7013. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7013). With his organ symphonies, the composer Enjott Schneider (born 1950) from Munich has been a profound sensation in recent years and seen world premieres at major European organ events. The Organ Symphony No. 6 'Te Deum' (premiered at Bruckner's St. Florian above Bruckner's tomb in 2008 and recorded there on CD) adopts the five-part structure and several motifs from Bruckner's 'Te Deum', thus becoming a forceful compact work pervaded by the Gotteslob. 1: 'Te Deum' is based on Bruckner's original figuration of fifths and eighths which is connected with the Latin Te Deum; 2: 'Te Ergo' is a 'preghiera' with pleading and praying gestures; 3: 'Aeterna fac' is an extremely virtuoso perpetuum mobile; 4: 'Salvum Fac' a basso ostinato and finally 5: 'In te, Domine speravi' a toccata which, after taking many detours, inevitably leads to the C major.

Organ - Digital Download SKU: A0.828693 Composed by Heinrich Nicolaus Gerber. Arranged by Guido Menestrina. Baroque. Score. 5 pages. Guido Menestrina #115413. Published by Guido Menestrina (A0.828693). Heinrich Nicolaus [Nikolaus, Nicholas] Gerber was a German organist and composer. He matriculated as a law student at the University of Leipzig on May 8, 1724, and towards the end of the same year became a pupil of J.S. Bach. In 1731 he was appointed court organist to the Prince of Schwarzburg at Sondershausen, a post in which, upon his death, he was succeeded by his son, the music lexicographer Ernst Ludwig Gerber (1746-1819). E.L. Gerber's dictionary of musicians (Leipzig, 1790-1792; revised edition, 1812-1814) contains a vivid account of his father's tuition under J.S. Bach. Numerous keyboard works by J.S. Bach survive in copies made by Heinrich Nicolaus Gerber during his Leipzig years (1724-1727), including the Inventions and Sinfonias (BWV 772-801), the French Suites (BWV 812-817), English Suites Nos. 1, 3, 5, and 6 (BWV 816, 818, 810, 811), the first two Preludes and Fugues from The Well-tempered Clavier Part 1 (BWV 846-847), and some miscellaneous works (BWV 818, BWV 819, BWV 914, and BWV 996).

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1307164). Lili of St. Luke'sbyFran OlsenIn 1990, a small black and white spotted dog, who had been found wandering, abused and sick in Surry County, Virginia, was scheduled to be put down by the Surry SPCA as unadoptable.  Three placements had failed because the young female was too afraid of the people.  Her last chance was Richard Lee Austin, curator of Historic St. Luke's Church in Smithfield, Virginia.  Austin had reluctantly agreed to look at the small spoodle.  He had just lost a beloved Pekingese of 18 years and did not want to go through the pain of another loss.  Lili, however, immediately seemed to know that this was her person, came directly to him and won his heart.  It was a mutual love affair.Lili went eagerly to work with Dick at the Gift Shop of Historic St. Luke's Church in Smithfield, Virginia, for the next 11 years.  She was gracious and never intrusive with the visitors.  Small children were able to approach Lili without fear.  She seemed to understand that she needed to be quite still with them.In 2000, Lili became the star of her own book, Lili of St. Luke's:  The Blessing of the Animals.  Written by Fran Olsen, a volunteer at the church, and illustrated by Buttons Boggs, the charming book tells the story of Lili's desire to go to church.  The animals in the church yard scoff at her.  She finally succeeds in going to church for the annual Blessing of the Animals service which commemorates the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.  Since the book was published many children have come to the church to have their picture taken with Lili.Mrs. Olsen, who is also the publisher, has donated a dollar from the sale of each book to be shared with Historic St. Luke's Church and three area humane societies with which Lili has been associated.  Contributions in the first six months of publication were $1200.Lili died on June 7, 2001, from cancer.  A week before she died, she made a personal appearance at a local elementary school.  As always, she was gracious and gentle, even though later it was apparent that she was deathly ill.  A bronze statute is planned to honor the gentle spoodle and will be placed at the church so children can continue to have their picture taken with her.  This elegy was commissioned for performance at the annual Blessing service.

Organ - Digital Download SKU: A0.942949 Composed by Aris Antoniades. Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 20 pages. Aris Antoniades #4346549. Published by Aris Antoniades (A0.942949). Toccata & Fugue for Organ (2018)Composed by Aris AntoniadesRunning time: approx. 7' 50'' Writing for Organ always seemed like a very distant dream for me. Born and raised in Cyprus, an isolated Mediterranean island-state in Europe where the religious musical tradition (Greek Orthodox Christianity) relies solely on voices (no instruments used during services), I never had access to an Organ. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, there’s not a single Organ in my entire country. The first time I ever saw one was during my college years in New York – and it was love at first sight! I was fascinated by its sound capabilities, its mechanism, and the sheer skill required to play it. You can, therefore, understand how thrilled I am to have had the opportunity to write for this great instrument. I would like to sincerely thank Shannon Murphy and Austin Philemon for believing in my work, and for commissioning this piece. Both the Toccata and the Fugue are based on the same (but altered) motivic materials. The Toccata is a piece that was inspired by the idea that life is a continuous marathon, represented by the ‘mechanical’ sixteenth-note ostinato figure which never stops – despite the contrapuntal obstacles that are thrown within its path. The motive, however, does transform and adapt along the way, in order to make the best of the situation.  The Fugue, on the other hand, represents the cerebral aspect of life: the concept of choices. The ostinato motive of the Toccata has now morphed into the subject of the Fugue, which will be attacked by some violent chromatic enemies. Estimated running time: ca. 8 minutesAbout the PDFs:Score size: 14 PagesContact the composer: https://www.arisantoniades.com or aris.antoniades@gmail.com

Instrumental Solo,Pipe Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1306531 Composed by Thomas Groh. Contemporary. Individual part. 10 pages. Thomas Groh #895881. Published by Thomas Groh (A0.1306531). The title “Litanies†obviously alludes to Jehan Alain's piece of the same name, written for organ in 1937. Inspired by this outstanding and unique composition, I had the idea, some 20 years ago, to create a piece of music based on a theme resembling a litany, too (without pretending, of course, that I would be able to equal in any way Alain's masterful quality as a composer). The main theme was notated quickly, but in the years since then, many variants and secondary themes that came to my mind did not satisfy me. Thus, it took a very long time and many ample interruptions before in this summer, with some new ideas everything fell into place as if by magic. There also exists a version of this piece for saxophone and organ (op. 3a).

Organ - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549915 Composed by James M. Guthrie. Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 3 pages. Jmsgu3 #3911787. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549915). In Nomine: A prelude to the St Luke Organ Book (by Daniel Pinkham) for one single organ manual. Subtitled The Little Time Machine, the composition features one iteration of the In Nomine cantus firmus. As the piece progresses, the cantus is treated in medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, classical, romantic, and modern styles. I performed this piece just before the world premiere of Daniel Pinkham's St. Luke Organ Book in 2006.The history of In Nomine is rooted in its origin as a type of contrapuntal instrumental composition by 16th-century English composers, usually for a consort of viols, lute, or keyboard, based on a version of a piece of plainchant. The name In Nomine was adopted for this type of piece after the English composer John Taverner composed an instrumental piece based on the plainchant Gloria Tibi Trinitas to which he set the words In nomine Domini in his Gloria Tibi Trinitas six-voice Mass. Over the next 150 years, English composers worked this melody into In Nomine pieces of ever more fantastic stylistic range. This set a fashion, and several 20th-century composers, such as Peter Maxwell Davies and Roger Smalley, have quoted In Nomines in their works. The In Nomine played a significant role in developing English polyphony. It is a title given to many pieces of English polyphonic, predominantly instrumental music, first composed during the 16th century. The In Nomine was the chief means by which the grand tradition of vocal polyphony was brought to bear on the evolution of instrumental music in England. The In Nomine is considered the most conspicuous single form in the early development of English consort music and is significant in the genesis of chamber music in England. It marked the first time a specific instrumental style was formed, and it influenced the development of English polyphony by bringing the tradition of vocal polyphony into the realm of instrumental music.Despite various attempts by scholars to elucidate its almost legendary origin, the mystery of the origin of the In Nomine remains unsolved.

Compositions for voice include masses, responses, psalm settings, hymns for congregation, choral music and solos.TEXT:The Spirit of the Lord is upon us. Send your Spirit upon us in this time and place, the Spirit who gives us comfort, the Spirit who brings light to our eyes, the Spirit who helps us say yes to your summoning Word.Bless us, Father, as you have done before, with the gift of your Spirit that he may stir new life within us.Blest are you in ev'rything that your Spirit makes new, now and for all ages to come. The source of this text is unknown. Though appropriate for Pentecost there is no direct connection to the scripture readings or sacramentary prayers for that Feast. The composition was written in the early years succeeding Vatican II (October 11, 1962 – December 8, 1965), a time of creative freedom. The language is period specific to that time, yet the music is universal.Rehearsal recommendation:The verse text is notated in consistent eighth-notes. Do not interpret this to mean that all syllables are to receive equal time.  Speak the text in natural cadence and then sing the pitches in that same natural cadence.  This will best represent Sr. Theophane’s intention. We invite you to browse other creative works by the School Sisters of St. Francis on our website:  https://www.sssf.org/SSSF/Our-Global-Impact/United-States/Music-Ministry/Catalog-of-Music.htm  Further information about our offerings is available from Dr. Sheri Masiakowski, curator of the Heritage Music Collection, at smasiakowski@sssf.org.
