This marvelous arrangement of Peter Tchaikovsky's Coronation March, sometimes called Festival March or Festival Coronation March, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and other festive occasions. This arrangement keeps all of the intensity and excitement of the original composition and is suitable for high school and college students. Professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (15 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available to the public for the first time. The Coronation March was ordered by the city of Moscow for the coronation of Tsar Alexander III in 1883. It was written during March of 1883 and was performed for the first time on June 4, 1883 in Sokolniky Park in Moscow, conducted by Sergei Taneyev. The music then included excerpts of the anthem, God Save the Tsar. The American premiere was on May 5, 1891, for the opening concert of Carnegie Hall in New York City, conducted by Tchaikovsky himself. During the Soviet Era, Russian performances and recordings of the music were revised to omit the excerpts from the Czarist national anthem, replacing it with thematic material used earlier in the march, due to an official Soviet ban on the anthem. Starting with Dmitri Medvedev's inauguration in 2008, an abbreviated version of this piece is played during the Russian presidential inauguration accompanying the entrance of the incoming president, and ends well before the playing in this piece of the Tsarist anthem God Save the Tsar. Unlike Tchaikovsky's other major compositions, the Coronation March does not have an opus number. It has been given alternative catalogue designations TH 50 and CW 47. Tchaikovsky's Coronation March was originally scored for a full orchestra and written in the key of D Major. Regis Bookshar has now created an abbreviated version, written in Db Major, and has arranged it for a Trumpet Quintet, consisting of 5 Bb Trumpets. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon in D, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Trumpet Quintet. Three Trumpets play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other two Trumpets. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library that are becoming available for the first time. This arrangement of the Allegro movement from Henry Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. This selection is one of the arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library, many of which are being made available for the first time. They have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The original composition was written in D Major but Regis Bookshar has transposed it to Bb Major, making it a little easier for many modern musicians. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (8 pages). The 17th century composer, Henry Purcell, is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers of his generation. His Sonata for Trumpet and Strings in D Major, composed in 1694, was probably written for the London Theatre, where a fine tradition of trumpet playing had developed. Purcell almost certainly had in mind either John Shore or his brother, William, the most renowned trumpet players in England at the time. The trumpets of the time were normally tuned in D and there were no valves on the Baroque trumpets, so they were limited in the number of notes that they could play. The term Sonata here probably means no more than a piece of incidental music and looks forward to the style that would become the solo concerto where soloist and strings are pitted against each other but also looks back to an older type of instrumental music which emphasized equality between members of the ensemble. The music is in three movements and looks forward to the fast-slow-fast plan popularized by Vivaldi's concertos. Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists, besides trumpet players, could also have the opportunity to play the Allegro movement from Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet, so he has created other arrangements of this selection. However, this particular arrangement is for a Trumpet Quintet, consisting of 5 Trumpets, but there are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this piece. You may find something else that may suit your needs. From the Swiss Guards in 18th-Century Paris) Der Arabi Nr. 1 (Trad) Arranged by Des McNutty The Basler Fasnacht, known locally in Basel Stadt (CH) as Die drey scheenschte Dääg (the three loveliest days), is a world-famous carnival where the Zeitgeist animates centuries of tradition. Local folks celebrate with a good-humoured satire of current events through costumes, masks, poetry and visual art on carnival floats and lanterns. Amongst many other activities, participants decorate the city and open ad-hoc bars to sustain everyone with drinks and characteristic foods, all of which led to the Basler Fasnacht being included on the Unesco Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017. Central to the whole experience is the music played on the streets, without electronic amplification, by two types of group: Gugge, with brass and percussion and Clique, with piccolos and side-drums made and played according to local custom. Some Fastnacht Fanfares contains historical melodies from the Cliques' repertoire arranged for Natural Trumpet Ensemble. The Signalkorps can have many players. The parts are in the low, principale register; ideal for newcomers and dilettantes. The ensemble parts require more skill and need only one player on each. s'Läggerli is used with kind permission from the Märtplatz-Clique Basel 1923. The similarity of the other melodies to trumpet calls may not be a total coincidence. Cavalry regiments, with their roots in armoured, mounted knights of even earlier times, were considered nobler; therefore they used royal trumpets and timpani for signalling and entertainment duties. So playing trumpet-style tunes on flutes adds a bit of class. Der Arabi Nr. 1 is now better known as The British Grenadiers from the early 1700s but can be traced as far back as the 1560s, when the Basler Fasncacht was already centuries old and the Schweizerpfeife (Swiss Flute), with drums, supplied the de rigueur regimental music for foot-soldiers all over Europe. Fasnacht is a glorious celebration laced with a melancholy reflected by the marching tempi of the Cliques: often slower than 90 BPM. A “standard� march is around 120 BPM. Vyyl Vergniege! (Enjoy!).
