Ases Death.Having run off with the bride, Ingrid, Peer has incurred a heavy fine from the villagers.  Because he is in hiding, it is his mother Ase who must pay this fine.  She does so, but it leaves her with nothing, and she becomes ill from destitution.  She dies, but not before Peer has an opportunity to visit her again.  Like Solveig, the farmer's daughter, she is forgiving of Peer and happy to see him before she passes.This slow movement from Peer Gynt Suite is arranged for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb and Bassoon.

Ã…se is the mother of Peer Gynt.  When her son absconds with the daughter of an affluent local farmer, Ã…se sacrifices everything to pay the penalties on his behalf and, left destitute, dies of poverty and illness.  Cheery stuff!Although fairly straightforward in terms of notes and rhythms, this piece has been classed as 'intermediate' as it requires good intonation and ensemble skills to perform effectively.
