Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1267846 Composed by Solage. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Holiday,Medieval. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #860034. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1267846). Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work in the history of medieval music. Here are some of its historical significances:1. It is one of the twelve surviving works attributed to Solage, a French composer who lived in the late 14th century. Solage's works are known for their complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and expressive melodies.2. Le basile de sa propre nature is a four-voice ballade that features a text about the mythical creature known as the basilisk. The lyrics describe the basilisk as a monster that kills everything it sees with its deadly venom. The music is characterized by its intricate rhythms and harmonies, which reflect the text's vivid imagery.3. The ballade is preserved in the Chantilly Codex, a manuscript that contains a collection of French secular music from the late 14th century. The Chantilly Codex is one of the most important sources of medieval music, and it provides valuable insights into the musical practices of the time.4. Le basile de sa propre nature is an example of the Ars subtilior style, which was a highly experimental and complex musical style that emerged in the late 14th century. This style was characterized by its use of intricate rhythms, complex harmonies, and unusual notational practices. The Ars subtilior style was highly influential in the development of later musical styles, and it remains an important part of the medieval musical canon.Overall, Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work that reflects the complex and experimental musical practices of the late 14th century. Its vivid imagery, intricate rhythms, and complex harmonies make it a valuable contribution to the medieval musical canon.Lyrics:All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. He is a monster of great power,And he is feared by all who know him.He is a creature of the earth,And he is a master of death. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a creature of the night,And he is a master of the dark.He is a monster of great might,And he is feared by all who hear his name. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly.Solage was a French composer and probably also a poet who lived in the late 14th century. He composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior, a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the century. Solage is an obscure composer, and aside from what can be deduced from the pieces attributed to him in the Chantilly Codex, nothing else is known about him. There are several interpretations of his name, and it is not clear whether his first name was Jean or Charles. The ars subtilior was a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the 14th century. It was characterized by complex rhythms and pitch, and it was a transitional period between the late medieval and Renaissance periods. Solage was one of the composers who fit into this school, and he composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior. Stylistically, Solage's works exhibit two distinctly different characters: a relatively simple one usually associated with his great predecessor and elder contemporary Guillaume de Machaut, and a more recherché one, complex in the areas of both pitch and rhythm, characteristic of the ars subtilior.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891942 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Stephen Davies. Baroque,Standards. 33 pages. Stephen Davies #5720039. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891942). From The Well-Tempered Clavier Book 2 BWV 870-893In Bach's own words ..... for the profit and use of musical youth desirous of learning, and especially for the pastime of those already skilled in this study....., we are literally invited by the great man himself, to enjoy playing his music in virtually any combination we like! The Wind Quartet is a fitting vehicle for these two pieces from The Well-Tempered Clavier Book 2, namely the Prelude No.1 and the Fugue No.22. The Prelude Completely different from the Prelude that opens Book 1, which is mainly broken chords, this opening Prelude to Book 2 features a continuously flowing sequence of melodic ideas. According to Levinson, few pieces of traditional music are more purely processive as this. It develops without a break or pause, without arrivals of significance, from beginning to end Good to play as well!! The Fugue Of course this Fugue should be in the key of Bb Minor, but to avoid all those nasty Fb's and E#'s etc the key has been altered just to make the music flow a little better in this instrumental combination (imho!), coupled with the time signature of 3/2, this Fugue should prove interesting in rehearsal! The four voices are distributed throughout the parts, and at 101 bars, it is certainly one of Bach's longest, and definitely one of the most enjoyable to play, especially in a generous acoustic. Also available here in Clarinet Quartet and Saxophone Quartet flavours!!

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.585364 Composed by Jon Anderson. Arranged by Jeff Tincher. Contemporary. 24 pages. Jeff Tincher #6247413. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.585364). This is Part 1 from the Starship Trooper trilogy. In the original key from The Yes Album, this song was the finale of the prog rock group Yes concerts for a long time. This part is a perfect example of how to make a song with a lot of odd time signatures sound like a standard rock song. Starship Trooper is one of my favorite early Yes hits. This song is classified as Intermediate due to all the time signature changes. Duration = 3:27. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Pop. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #865366. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1273200). Arranged standrard wind quartet: flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoonTransposed into Bb from original A to aid players.Melody given to oboe. guitar break to flute . Bassoon covers bass guitarInterest in all parts!!Great fun with mixed time sigs!! Good Morning Good Morning is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.It was written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. Inspiration for the song came to Lennon from a television commercial for Kellogg's Corn Flakes.Another reference to contemporary television was the lyric It's time for tea and Meet the Wife, referring to the BBC sitcom. Lennon himself was critical of the track. It's a throwaway, a piece of garbage, I always thought, he once said. I always had the TV on very low in the background when I was writing, and it came over, and then I wrote the songThe song is played at 117 beats per minute, has an unusual rhythmic feel, and uses different time signatures. Beats are played in groups of 2, 3 and 4, and time signature changes frequently. Parts with 5/4 and 4/4 bars alternate, with 3/4 transitions. Most of the song uses simple time, where the beats are divided into two, but the middle eight sections use compound time, where the beats are divided into triplets.YouTube vid is my brass quartet arrangement.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1258034 Composed by Guillaume de Machaut, 1300-1377. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 38 pages. Jmsgu3 #851272. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1258034). Instrumentation: English Horn Duo & Bassoon Duo.1. Kyrie2. Gloria3. Credo4. Sanctus5. Agnus dei6. Ite missa estGuillaume de Machaut composed the Messe de Nostre Dame, also known as the Mass of Our Lady, in the early 1360s. He wrote the mass for the Cathedral at Reims, where he served as a canon, a permanent clergy member. According to a rubric found at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. The texts of both Gloria and Credo are quite lengthy, and therefore Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, both ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen. Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for the sake of uniqueness. It is considered to be a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period, which was characterized by complex polyphonic textures and rhythmic innovations. The mass is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a significant work that represents a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period and reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during the 14th century. The mass consists of five movements: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, followed by the dismissal Ite, missa est. The tenor of the Kyrie is based on Vatican Kyrie IV, the Sanctus, and Agnus correspond to Vatican Mass XVII, and the Ite is on Sanctus VIII. The Gloria and Credo have no apparent chant basis, although they are stylistically related to one another. The mass is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. The Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music because it is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, the Messe de Nostre Dame was an important part of the liturgical practices of the time, and it is still regarded as a masterpiece of medieval music and of all religious music.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.579625 Composed by Michele Pesenti. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Christian,Classical,Renaissance. 7 pages. David Warin Solomons #3121873. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.579625). Arrangement of a madrigal by Michele Pesenti (also known as Micha Pesentus, Michael Pesentus and other versions of the name). He was a priest in Italy (possibly Verona or Ferrara) and lived from about 1470 to 1521. This song Dal lecto me levava appears to have been one of the first of its kind to signal the move from the traditional frottole (which had mainly a homophonic movement, and often had just a single voice with instruments) into the more familar madrigal style, where all the lines were sung and where the movement was more contrapuntal.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.937491 By Celia Cruz. By Nestor Mili. Arranged by Jan Thalman. Contemporary. 24 pages. Jan Thalman #6432127. Published by Jan Thalman (A0.937491). This version for a saxophone quartet keeps the original Cha-cha-chá and Bolero rhythms of the melody, at letter B. The improvisation of the soprano saxophone in measure 70 can be substituted by the singing of the lyrics at letter J.Both tumbaos, at letter J and at the solo of the soprano saxophone, can be repeated as many times as needed, until there is a signal to continue with the score.Tumbaos are usually a repetitive two or four bar rhythmic vamp played by the piano, bass or guitar and they must be played in relation to the clave. In this case, the tumbao is played using two saxophones.

Contemporary,Country. 25 pages. Jeff Tincher #930589. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.1345707). This song got me hooked on Tommy Emmanuel. Tommy is a Certified Guitar Player, a designation created by Chet Atkins that is awarded to a guitar player who goes beyond a normal guitar player. Chet only handed out 4 of these designations in his lifetime. This song is a lively country song that many guitarists strived to learn. In the original key, this will get your foot tapping (or your head bobbing as Tommy does when he plays this song).
