The Bassoon keeps the 12/8 going while the Clarinet, Oboe, and Flute become punctuations. The punctuation continues while the Flute plays the melody. At measure 15 the song moves into a 6/8 feel. At measure 34 the song returns to the original 12/8 feel. The composition then splits to where the Clarinet takes on harmony in the 12/8 feel while the Oboe and Flute take on a 6/8 countermelody. A short bridge is created by stacking the Flute and Oboe on top of the Clarinet/Bassoon 12/8 feel. Then it splits again to where Oboe stays with the Clarinet/Bassoon pattern and the Flute goes off on it's own. During this time the Flute folds in the 6/8 melody, creating a pleasant conflict. He is best known for his symphonic works, but also wrote many piano pieces based on dances. I have taken his piano Gavotte and freely arranged it for Instrumental Quartet.  This brisk piece is lively with a busy texture. I have crafted 4 independent lines that are each of equal importance and the focus quickly shifts from one part to the other. The lines rhythmically weave together, answering each other. The real interest in the piece is the constantly changing and contrasting dynamics and articulation. Often every beat of the bar has a different articulation, and the individual parts rarely have the same articulation at the same time. (i.e., One part might be slurred while another part is playing staccato and yet another is accented.) This complexity of texture creates energy and excitement. A great piece to spice up any concert with a fun smile.  This composition is a fusion of multiple eras; originally written during the Romantic period, but with many Classical elements and a Baroque form and style, to which I add some Contemporary touches.  Notes and rhythms are Intermediate, but adding all of the markings at this pace makes it Advanced Intermediate.6 page score, 2 page parts2:10 minutes
