We Can Work It Out is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written by Paul McCartneyand John Lennon. It was first issued as a double A-side single with Day Tripper in December 1965.It also appeared on the 1966 US release Yesterday and Today. The release marked the first time in Britain that both tracks on an artist's single were promoted as joint A-sides.The song was recorded during the sessions for the band's Rubber Soul album. The single was number 1 in Britain (where it won the Ivor Novello Award for the top-selling A-side of 1965), the United States, Australia, Canada and Ireland. In the UK, it was the seventh highest selling single of the 1960s. We Can Work It Out is a comparatively rare example of a Lennon–McCartney collaboration from this period in the Beatles' career, in that it recalls the level of collaboration the two songwriters had shared when writing the group's hit singles of 1963. The lyrics were not what pushed me to arrange this; it was all of the feelings and rhythms that were occurring in the background. The song is originally a sad song about a mother and her son, but as I listened to the song, the words didn't release my emotions, it was the story being told in the background. My favorite part is what I gave the 2nd Alto Sax. Even though this was the last part I wrote, it is overall the most important in giving the audience the full story. It starts off insignificant only supporting the baseline and completing chords, but then it gains its own voice and becomes more independent as we reach the end.

Many scolarly, and some frankly impenetrable, analyses have been written on the subject of Contrapunctus 7, all available on the internet somewhere (mainly if you can't sleep!). So I would simply say that the motif throughout is stretched, further elongated, scrunched up, placed on different beats, played upsidedown, sideways, shortened, further shortened, over the bar, under the bar, off to the bar(!), and so on, it shouldn't work!! But of course it really does, really! I've known this piece for many years, but it was not until I began unravelling it for this arrangement that I must again doff my cap to old J.S. and his enduring genius!(See also Clarinet & Saxophone versions).

This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts. S'el vostro cor, Madonna is set as a tenor and bass duet. Monteverdi tries out many different combinations of voices in this book as he works to build the different tools which will eventually all find their way into opera. The first lines translate as If your heart, Lady, So soft towards others and is a plea from an obviously love-stricken young man to the object of his desires who favours another. The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.) Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.
