A free, mystical opening leads into a delicate main theme in a minor key, accompanied by finger cymbals and chime tree. The opening strains provide a transition into an energetic ride in 12/8 time with rhythmic, malleted bass bells under a strong treble melody and using tambourine for rhythmic support. The bass and middle bells are then given the melody in an antiphonal style, followed by a return to the malleted bass and the upper-treble melody with the addition of a tenor drum. The section closes in great triumph but gives way to randomly malleted bells and a return to the mysterious opening strains.
