The opening of Christian Lullaby is based on Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3,   Part II, Movement No. 5 which features a boys’ choir, female chorus and an alto solo. The hymn section is an original composition inspired from the alto soloist. In the final section, the piece combines both motifs to move to a dramatic ending. Moreover, this arrangement is designed as an opener for any religious ceremony but, it could be played at any event. The arranger is Brian Leverett. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from Wayne State University and has now retired from teaching band in the Detroit Public Schools. He also have been an avid handbell choir member for twenty years.

Total Praise is arranged for a 3 octave Handbell Choir, Level 3 (Key, Accidentals, 16th notes, Syncopation). This is a gospel song sung at many church and secular events for over 20 years. This inspirational song can be performed in a wide range of venues in or outside places of worship. A traditional encore begins at measure 14, beat 3. It goes to the 2nd Ending and continues to the end of the piece; no repeats. The author, Richard Smallwood, is quoted to say, It’s a song that gives praise to God, transcending church walls and going places I never thought it would go, circa 2015.  The arranger is Brian Leverett. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from Wayne State University and has now retired from teaching Elementary and Middle School Band in the Detroit Public Schools. He also has been an avid member of handbell choirs for twenty years.

Also sprach Zarathustra (1896) (Thus Spoke Zarathustra) is a tone poem by Richard Strauss (1864-1949). This piece pays homage to the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. A tone poem is a piece of orchestral music, usually in a single continuous movement, which illustrates or evokes the content of a poem, short story, novel, painting, landscape, or other non-musical source. This tone poem exhibits the entitlements of man and nature by the use of contrasting and opposing tonalities (C Major and B Major). Although, the first movement is Straus’s most famous selection, this arrangement is from the lesser known second movement translated: Of Those at the Back of the World. This lullaby type song conjures a slow emotional music that rises and fall. Perhaps it could be a type of love story. The arranger is Brian Leverett.
