SKU: A0.953727

Composed by William B. Bradbury and John B. Dykes. Arranged by G. R. Adkison. Christian,Sacred. Score. 5 pages. Gary Ray Adkison #14257. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953727).

Holy God Medley is a medley of the Christian hymns: He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought and Holy, Holy, Holy arranged for 4-5 octave handbell choirs. It starts with a two measure introduction, followed by He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought. This is fairly up-tempo, with a surprise modulation going into the chorus. In the chorus, there are bass runs, a brief descant line, and doubling of the melody into the high bells. There are then two verses of Holy, Holy, Holy. The first verse is slow and is in ¾ time, instead of the normal common meter. It is also soft and *very* plain, as a setup for the last verse, which is faster, and grows in volume to the end, with much fuller chords, and uses the normal common meter that the original hymn uses. There is another surprise modulation halfway through this verse. Very full chords are used, with a brief bass clef downward arpeggio in the next to last measure, to emphasize the ending. The first verse of Holy, Holy, Holy can be performed with handchimes, if desired, although the arrangement is not scored as such. The audio demonstration clip provided is in a piano voice (patch) but suffices to demonstrate how this arrangement is generally meant to sound. I believe that this is probably a 2+ (2 plus) arrangement in degree of difficulty.

SKU: A0.1284591

Composed by William Gardiner. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. Classical,Folk,Sacred,Traditional. Score. 8 pages. Mark R Lewis #875766. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1284591).

The text for Take Up Thy Cross was written by the hymnwriter Charles W. Everest and has several tunes associated with it. The tune used here is variably referred to as Germany or Gardiner, after the most common arranger. The tune was actually composed by the famous German composer Beethoven but the most common arrangement of the tune was by William Gardiner in his volumes known as Sacred Melodies. The tune is also used by some schools for their alma mater song. The tune is also used for the hymn Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life.

This arrangement of the tune is for 3 to 5 octave handbell choir and utilizes handchimes extensively. It also starts with the singing bell technique. While the changes between bells and chimes are a little abrupt and there are steady eighth note patterns through much of the piece, it is not too difficult and is comfortably in the 3 difficulty range.

The term passacaglia refers to a set of variations over a repeating bass line, commonly in triple meter. This original work by Fred Gramann explores a variety of handbell textures and techniques, building from simple to more complex patterns. Being built on a foundational bass line, an alternative title for worship might be Built on the Sure Foundation. It was composed for the Ontario Guild of English Handbell Ringers Festival in Peterborough, Ontario in May 2015.

Arranged by Paul A. McKlveen. Christmas, Sacred. Handbell score. 12 pages. Hope Publishing - Digital #2603DP. Published by Hope Publishing - Digital (H1.2603DP).

Popular French Carol Ring We Now of Christmas cleverly blends the popular French carol, Noel Nouvelet and the classic Ukrainian carol, commonly known as Carol of the Bells, to create a musical offering that reflects the excitement of the Christmas season. The rhythmic alteration of the French carol gives a fresh take that will be enjoyed by both ringer and listener alike. Additional color and interest is added through the use of optional handchimes, various bell techniques (TD, RT, PL, LV, SK, and martellato), and a key modulation from C minor to E minor and back.
