Handbell - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1001565 By Trini Lopez. By Lee Hays and Pete Seeger. Arranged by Mark R. Lewis. Contemporary. Score. 8 pages. Mark R Lewis #6433781. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1001565). This is an arrangement for 2-4 octave handbell choir of If I Had a Hammer. This protest song was written in 1950 in support of the progressive movement. The song was written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays for the folk group The Weavers. It was made famous by the group Peter, Paul, and Mary and the singer Trini Lopez whose versions both charted in the top 10 on the charts in the 1960s.This version is arranged for 2-4 octave handbell choir and makes heavy use of mallets for most of the piece. There are some very quick changes between using mallets and normal ringing and there are a lot of syncopated rhythms throughout the piece. These challenges make this arrangement ideal for smaller bell choirs that are still at a intermediate or higher playing ability. Even though the song is not specifically intended for church services, the message of the song can be incorporated into quite a variety of religious themes. The arrangement is in the key of C with no accidentals. The piece would be classified as Level 3+ using the AGEHR guidelines. You can find other arrangements by Mark R Lewis at http://www.makingjoyfulmusic.com/storefront.html.

Handbell - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1049701 Composed by Traditional Welsh Folk Song. Arranged by John Wernega. Folk,Instructional,Multicultural,Sacred,Traditional,World. Score. 1 pages. John Wernega #654086. Published by John Wernega (A0.1049701). Here is a beautiful welsh folk melody that people still recognize today. This is an easy piece for young bell choirs because there is a single-note line in the treble clef accompanied by a single-note line in the bass clef, making it easy for young students to follow. This arrangement passes the melody back and forth between the treble and bass clef, and it has come nice harmonic surprises at the end. It is great for concerts, and since this melody sometimes appears in church hymnals it is also great for a Mass/Service at your church. Your students will love performing this piece!

Handbell - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1191184 Composed by Scottish Folk Song. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. Celtic,Folk,Historic,Irish,Standards. Score. 7 pages. Mark R Lewis #790703. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1191184). Barbara Allen is a (likely Scottish) Folk song that has spread all across the English-speaking world. The earliest known versions date from the 17th century and as with most folk songs, there is considerable variety in the lyrics recorded in various versions. Generally the song tells the story of Barbara Allen and her rejecting the love a young man who is dying. This version is arranged for 3 octave handbell choir and is approximately level 2 by AGHER difficulty guidelines. There are no bell changes and the piece is relatively simple overall, but there are a few times where the rhythms are mildly complex with some ringers playing steady quarter-notes and others playing eighth-note followed by dotted quarter-note patters. The melody is passed between all three octaves and harmony is quite simple for most of the piece.

Handbell - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1358497 Composed by French Canadian Folk Song and Gustav Holst. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Score. 8 pages. Mark R Lewis #942954. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1358497). In Bleak Midwinter's Moonlight is a medley of two Christmas carols, In the Bleak Midwinter and Twas in the Moon of Wintertime. The first carol was originally written as a poem by Christina Rossetti and published in 1872. It has been set to music several times, but the tune most associated with the text, Cranham, was composed in 1906 by Gustav Holst. The second carol is a French Canadian Christmas carol first written by a Jesuit missionary in 1642. This tune is also called the Huron Carol. This medley is written for 3-5 octave bell choir and goes back and forth between the two carols several times. Every time there is a key change, sometimes between related major and minor keys, and sometimes between two closely related keys. The melody is carried by the low, middle, and high ranges of the bells at some point in the piece and the accompanying voices are quite active throughout most of arrangement. In Bleak Midwinter's Moonlight is between the level 3 and level 4 range of difficulty. There are definitely passages that will require work and the multiple key changes require multiple handbell changes, but bell changes are never very abrupt and accidentals only happen in the transition passages. The most difficult part will probably be making sure the melody is always heard even when it is buried below active accompaniment. A few times the bass bells have quick passages that will require sharing of bells or a lot of practice.Season: ChristmasRange: 3-5 octaves.
