The slow, somber opening section, in F minor, is very effective when rung entirely on handchimes. At measure 22 the key changes to F major, the tempo changes to Allegro guisto, and if handchimes were used for the opening section, the handbells are used from here to the end of the piece. To aid in interpretation of the music, the choral text is provided on page 8.

The lowest bass line is always malleted while the upper bass line has an interesting and challenging eighth note pattern. Differentiating between accompaniment and solo lines, making the listener aware of both soprano and contralto solo lines, and ringing the piece at a brisk tempo will prove quite challenging to the advanced bell choir.
