Natalie Sleeth's original SATB choral setting is also known as In the Bulb There Is a Flower. The provocative text relates both to our present life and our hope of eternal life, as expressed in I Corinthians 15:35-58. This fresh setting emphasizes the resurrected life as it builds to the final victory stanza with driving rhythm and a change to common meter (4/4). This arrangement is also available in a medium-voice vocal solo in the key of F.

Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus is a lovely Advent hymn. The text was written by Charles Wesley and has been used in Advent services regularly since it was written in the 1740s. The text is often set to many tunes but the one used in this version is Hyfrydol, This tune was written by Rowland Prichard about 100 years after Wesley's text and is used extensively in many hymnals but especially for this particular text. This arrangement is for 3-5 octave handbell choir, although it is unusual in that the 4 octave version does require the use of the F3 bell. Other than that this is a relatively simple, if thickly orchestrated, arrangement. There are three sections using different methods of music making, the first is regular ringing, the second is extensive marts and mart-lifts, and the third explores musical canon before bringing back the more traditional bell ringing styles.

Level 5 • Tremors was commissioned for the Bellissimo ensemble of Redlands Adventist Academy. The school's proximity to the San Andreas Fault was the inspiration for this composition, which features a rumbling chromatic ostinato and intense, energized polyphony. The piece ends calmly with a shimmering glimmer of peace. An ideal concert opener, churches with advanced bell choirs will also find it a great postlude for Advent or Lent. Printed in a non-traditional 4-staff format, Air in D is a creative setting of a J. S. Bach instrumental favorite. The bottom staff is for the malleted bass line, mimicking pizzicato cello. The middle two staves carry the rest of the accompaniment, played on chimes. The top staff is the melody, played by a few ringers or a solo instrument. An assignment scheme for 13 ringers is suggested. Air in D would be a lovely addition to any worship service or concert. You might want to let your ringers hear a recording of the orchestral original version, then take the opportunity to teach ringers the three functional orchestral sections (melody, bass line, and accompaniment). Such an experience can present a great moment of understanding for the group. Similarly, after hearing the contours of Bach's soaring melody sensitively shaped by violins, ringers will aspire to a higher level of musicality.

This Russian dance is always a familiar favorite with audiences and performers. Although it has many accidentals and some quick rhythms, the clearly laid out arrangement is easy to read and interpret. The tempo is quick although the written note values never exceed an eighth note value, and all rhythmic patterns are reinforced with many ringers playing block chords. When the dynamics are performed, this arrangement is a showstopper.

This arrangement is for 5, 6, or 7 ringers using two octaves of handbells, and the piece is Level 3 when played with seven ringers. Assignments are included according to the quantity of ringers.

The arrangement is very true to the orchestral score by Tchaikowsky. The arranger recommends listening to an orchestral recording of the composition to gain insight into interpreting the piece with handbells.

Uplifting and sweet, this arrangement of The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want (BROTHER JAMES' AIR) makes use of stirring crescendos and orchestral-sounding sweeping musical lines. The quiet waters of the Psalm 23 text are reflected in the shimmering, peaceful first verse. The second verse gains momentum (My soul He doth restore again) and the powerful crescendo into the third verse brings a confident sense of peace (Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale / yet will I fear no ill). At the final cadence, ethereal, unusual harmonies give way to a serene resolution, symbolizing heaven as a final resting place, calling to mind the last lines of the text: and in God's house forevermore / my dwelling place shall be.
