Specifically chosen by the Distinctly Teen Handbell Ensemble for their premier performance at the 2023 Handbell Musicians of America National Seminar in Irving, Texas, this piece is a faithful rendition of OneRepublic's hit song. The rhythmic energy and drive from the original is transcribed here beautifully with the use of numerous chimes, mallets, and other techniques. It would be a perfect fit for a school ensemble or a community group's pops concert. IT IS A LEVEL 3.

Handbell - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767633 Composed by Rowland Hugh Prichard. Arranged by c.e. walz. Christmas,Sacred. Score. 2 pages. C.E. Walz #3359569. Published by C.E. Walz (A0.767633). This BEGINNING HANDBELL CHOIR piece has a lovely melody. Some bells play harmony, so let the melody come through every time. This is Maestro’s favorite advent carol, for as he frequently recalls, I sang a solo in ‘Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus’ when I was in a renowned boy choir many years ago. I understand, from Maestro, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. I’ll reserve comment on that one! This one-octave piece has bells that range from G4 – F#5.  For church, school, or civic organizations.  Key of A, two pages, 1:22 minutes performance time at 90 bpm, but it can be taken faster or slower.

Carillon,Instrumental Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1301689 By Duke Ellington and his Orchestra. By Duke Ellington, Irving Mills, and Juan Tizol. Arranged by Michael Gancz. 20th Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Latin,Musical/Show. Individual part. 8 pages. Michael Gancz #891301. Published by Michael Gancz (A0.1301689). Caravan is one of Duke Ellington's (1899-1974) most famous compositions—although he didn't actually write it. That credit goes to Puerto Rican trombonist Juan Tizol (1900-1984), a member of the Ellington's big band from 1929 to 1944. Tizol composed the theme in 1936 and promptly sold the rights to lyricist Irving Mills for only $25. The song became an instant hit—jazz critic Ted Gioia expllains that it fit perfectly with the musical exoticism that patrons were demanding at [Ellington's] regular gig at the Cotton Club in Harlem. Indeed, much jazz from this era, especially Ellington's, was steeped in Orientalist aesthetics. Although we hear it now as a self-contained musical phenomenon, we must acknowledge this music's problematics even as we continue to celebrate its progressive and revolutionary qualities. Part of my interest in this piece is in its capacity as a vessel in which I can explore my own multiform identity as an expatriate of the Middle East, a carillonist, and a lover of jazz. This arrangement reflects what might happen when these three perspectives collide. Ellington recorded Caravan more than 100 times, and the names of its additional interpreters reads as a history of jazz itself: Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Nat King Cole, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis and dozens more all brought their own spin to the tune. What makes it particularly special, though, is its appeal to listeners outside the jazz fandom. The 2014 film Whiplash introduced mass audiences to the song's unique atmosphere and to the genius of the Duke and his sidemen, thanks to an outstanding big band arrangement by John Wasson. My setting of the tune for the carillon recalls both Duke and Tizol's original version and this more recently popular edition. In this arrangement, I hope to highlight the carillon's capacity as a percussion instrument, and to use this as a bridge into the world of jazz. A successful interpretation will focus on groove, stratification of voices, and balance. Try to keep the pedals light!Michael Gancz2023Sources:Gioia, Ted (2012). Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGB812. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGB812). UPC: 749193018286.The title Stoccato is a combination of staccato and toccata, both of which describe the piece with its quick motion (toccata) and use of mallets (staccato.) Commissioned in honor of the musical ministry of Alice Ralston at Fist United Methodist Church of Midland, the musical theme is base on a musical representation of the letters A-L-I-C-E-R-A-L-S-T-O-N. The opening three statements of her name provide moments of reflections and remembrance, to be savored as the memories of Alice's work are treasured by all. The remainder of the piece is pure celebration, to be rung joyously.

Handbell - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.953736 Composed by John Bennard, John H. Stockton and Lewis E. Jones, John T. Grape, and Robert Lowry. Arranged by G. R. Adkison. Christian,Easter,Sacred. Score. 9 pages. Gary Ray Adkison #17601. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953736). The Saving Blood of Jesus is a 4-5 octave, 110 measure handbell choir arrangement, that is a medley of the Christian hymns: Nothing But the blood, Jesus Paid It All, The Old Rugged Cross, Down at the Cross, and There Is Power in the Blood. The theme of the arrangement is the blood of Jesus that was shed for us on the Cross. Three octaves of OPTIONAL handchimes (C4 through F6) are used in The Old Rugged Cross, but handbells can be substituted for the handchimes, if desired. There is a brief introduction (...No other Fount I know...). Throughout most of this arrangement, use is made of descant lines and bass runs. There are contrasting styles, tempos, key signatures and dynamic levels within. Only the subject matter remains constant. Because of the emphasis on the Crucifixion, it can also be used as Easter music. This is probably a 3+ or 4- level of difficulty. The audio clip supplied is in a piano voice (patch) but suffices to demonstrate how the arrangement is generally meant to sound.
