SKU: A0.1039962

By Wings. By Denny Laine and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Malcolm C Wilson. Celtic,Country,Folk,Irish,Pop,Traditional. Score. 3 pages. Malcolm Wilson #644829. Published by Malcolm Wilson (A0.1039962).

This arrangement for 3-octaves handbells of the song by the rock band Wings (written by Sir Paul McCartney and Denny Laine) is designed to be shorter, and accessible, yet ensuring all ringers have interesting parts, and includes handbell techniques tower swing, echo and gyro.

The song was written in tribute to the picturesque Kintyre peninsula in Scotland and its headland, the Mull of Kintyre, where Paul McCartney has owned High Park Farm since 1966. The song was Wings' biggest hit in Britain where it became the 1977 Christmas number one, remaining at number 1 for 9 weeks, and was the first single to sell over two million copies nationwide. It is one of the best-selling singles of all time in the United Kingdom. The lyrics of the first verse, also used as the repeating chorus, are an ode to the area's natural beauty and sense of home.

Two Manger Carols is a setting for handbells, optional handchimes, flute, and oboe incorporating Whence Comes this Rush of Wings Afar (also known as Carol of the Birds) and Sleep of the Child Jesus.  The opening phrase uses the singing bell technique, over which the flute plays a figure representing the rush of wings and the oboe introduces the carol melody. Throughout the arrangement, the melody moves between handchimes, flute, oboe, and handbells.  Care must be taken to balance the dynamics of the various instruments, especially taking care that the oboe doesn't overpower the ensemble.  As the piece slows to the end, carefully observe dynamics and musically interpret the text, King of Glory, sleep. .

Composed by George Frideric Handel, John Francis Wade, Phillips Brooks, and and Felix Mendelssohn. Arranged by G. R. Adkison. Christian,Christmas,Sacred. Score. 4 pages. Gary Ray Adkison #14023. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953722).

Christmas Joy is a 3-4-5 octave, 58 measure, handbell choir arrangement, which is a medley of Christmas carols, including Joy to the World, O, Little Town of Bethlehem, a little bit of O Come, All Ye Faithful and the chorus to Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. I would guess that this arrangement is a level 2+ (2 plus) degree of difficulty, due primarily to the quick eighth-note bass runs in Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. It starts softly, then repeats the opening phrase (Joy to the World) twice, each time louder. The last time, which actually starts the carol, is loud and bold. This naturally contrasts with the next carol (O, Little Town of Bethlehem). The first line of O Come Let Us Adore Him forms a natural-sounding bridge to the enthusiastic chorus of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. The very ending is half-timed, with tolls (swings). I think that this arrangement is probably a 2+ (2 plus) level of difficulty.

Soulful original material introduces the tune and reappears throughout the piece. Appropriate at any time of the year, this flowing setting will create a prayerful atmosphere for worship and reflection.

SKU: A0.953716

Composed by Michael Haydn, William H. Doane, and and Franklin L. Sheppard. Arranged by G. R. Adkison. Christian. Score. 5 pages. Gary Ray Adkison #12143. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953716).

Worship Him is a 74 measure, 4-5 octave handbell choir arrangement, which is a medley of the Christian hymns: O Worship the King, To God Be the Glory, and This Is My Father's World. The unifying theme is worshiping God. This is a lively arrangement, meant to be a confidence builder for the handbell choir who has four or five octaves of handbells. The nature of the chord choices, runs, brief descant fills and sometimes full chords are chosen to make the arrangement pleasing to the audience and satisfying to the players, in spite of the relatively simple level of difficulty. Tolls (swings) and shakes, which are relatively easy techniques, are used to add interest. This is probably a difficulty level 2+ (2 plus) arrangement.

Hymn tune The late Douglas Floyd Smith has left us with a very effective setting of the great hymn Immortal, Invisible. Beginning softly, and building quickly with a presentation of thick, bold chords, which include bell swings, this fantasy is filled with musical interest throughout. In addition, there is an opportunity for the congregation to join in and sing along.

SKU: A0.953717

Composed by Martin Luther, Welsh Hymn Tune, and and Conrad Kocher. Arranged by G. R. Adkison. Christian,Sacred. Score. 4 pages. Gary Ray Adkison #13471. Published by Gary Ray Adkison (A0.953717).

Immortal Fortress, Lord of Beauty is a 55 measure, 4-5 octave handbell choir arrangement medley of the Christian hymns: Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, and For the Beauty of the Earth. Including the brief introduction and the slightly elongated ending, it takes 2 minutes and 7 seconds to perform at the suggested tempo markings. Praising God is the obvious underlying and unifying theme. There is a doubled descant line in the first half of For the Beauty of the Earth---then, during the last line---shakes and tolls (swings). Melody doubling is used in the second hymn. The difficulty level is about 3 or 3+ primarily due to the eighth-note bass runs in the first two hymns.
