SKU: A0.1270338

Composed by Paul Addison, Marian Kurzdorfer, and Karen Kurzdorfer. Arranged by Paul Addison. Children,Religious. Score. 59 pages. Paul Addison #862749. Published by Paul Addison (A0.1270338).

This musical tells a story of what life might have been like for Jesus at the age of 12. He learns lessons from the scriptures in synagogue school, including the Creation, the Ten Commandments, and the stories of Samson and David. He has dinner with his family, and his sisters ask about the role of women in the home and  in the culture. He discusses learning a trade with his father Joseph. Then the family takes a trip to Jerusalem for the Passover feast, and it is there that Jesus talks with the rabbis and scholars about the deeper meaning of the scriptures. They ask, “Who is this boy?â€, to which the women reply, “His name is Jesusâ€.

The songs are at an easy level, mostly with single-line melodies. There is one rap song, “Rabbi’s Rapâ€, which could be accompanied by a beat-box sound. There is also a medley, “Who Is This Boy? / His Name is Jesusâ€, in which the scholars and teachers sing two verses, the women’s chorus sings two verses, and then they sing together.

The musical runs about 40 minutes.

SKU: A0.1298967

Composed by Ian Calvert. Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday. Score. 7 pages. Ian Calvert #888817. Published by Ian Calvert (A0.1298967).

This is the first publication of a new Christmas song, set for baritone and piano.
The words are those of a poem by Leonard Clark (1905 – 1981), an English poet who was
raised in The Forest of Dean, in the west of England.
In 1972 he published a slim little book of Christmas poems, of which ‘Singing in the Streets’
is one, surely one of the most appealing of Christmas poems. It gives its name to the book.
The poem tells of an older man revisiting the village of his boyhood, and wondering whether,
somehow, the streets still hold the sound of the carols that he and the other boys and girls
sang there. It begins:
‘I had almost forgotten the singing in the streets,
Snow piled up by the houses, drifting
Underneath the door into the warm room, …’
It is very evocative of that time and of the magic that Christmas always holds for children.
Drawn from the same book of poems there is available another new Christmas song, called
The Birth; that one is set in two versions, one for voice and piano and the other for SATB a
cappella.
Ian Calvert.

Composed by Robert J. Sherman. Arranged by Original Piano/Vocal Arrangement by Robert J. Sherman. Broadway,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Musical/Show. Score. 6 pages. Sherman Theatrical Entertainment Ltd. #117896. Published by Sherman Theatrical Entertainment Ltd. (A0.529570).

The Sharpest Smile is from the musical Love Birds. This song pays homage to “Honey Bun†from the classic 1949 Rodgers & Hammerstein musical: South Pacific. Like its forerunner, “The Sharpest Smile†represents a “show within a show†moment. Both “Honey Bun†and “The Sharpest Smile†derive their comedy from the age-old, vaudevillian gimmick of a girl pretending to be a boy and vice versa. In the context of the Love Birds script, “Vera†(a female parrot) is costumed as a 1920s (male) gangster talking to “his†gangster friends. “The Gangster†character explains that “he†has met a wonderful girl (named “Pearlâ€), so don’t expect to see “him†around as much; or lyrics to that effect. Later in the number, we learn that “Pearl†is in fact a hungry crocodile dressed in a lady’s bikini costume (i.e. two coconuts strung together for the top – also an homage to “Honey Bunâ€). Pearl constantly tries to take a bite out of the Gangster Parrot who is blissfully unaware of the threat. This is a comedy song about mismatched relationships, but it also serves as meta-commentary on the dangers that pursuing such relationships can pose. In other words, “Pearl†is “Peril†(at least according to the thinking of the time). Despite the implicit risk, this unconventional love story seems to work out in the end. When printing, please scale to fit for standard US Letter and A4 size.

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Jeff Tincher. Rock. Score. 8 pages. Jeff Tincher #5731811. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.584396).

Here is another love song from The Beatles. In the original key from Past Masters cd, this song is about a boy who longs for a girl that he once broke up from and now wants her back. This song never appeared on a U.K. release until they released the Past Masters cd. However this song appeared on the U.S. release Meet The Beatles. The subtitle Ringo's Theme did not appear on the title until after George Martin composed an instrumental version used in their first movie A Hard Day's Night. It was also the B-side of the U.S. single All My Loving. This arrangement includes the live ending The Beatles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show February 16, 1964. Duration = 2:24. Composed by Marilynn Seits. Children,Instructional,Pop. Score. 4 pages. M Seits Publishing #2029095. Published by M Seits Publishing (A0.953784).

The Hello and Goodby Song, composed by Marilynn Seits, is a delightful and easy to sing song that can be used at the beginning and end of classes for young children. In this song, the teacher sings Hello (or Good Bye) to all the boys & girls and then goes around the room for a Hello (or Good Bye) to each individual by name. After the children are familiar with the song, they can sing their own names and clap their hands to the rhythm as they go around the room. It's easy to add parents, grandparents or visitors names to the lyrics and it appropriate for children from nursery school through ages 6 or 7. There is an easy piano accompaniment & chord symbols for left hand piano or guitar. It's the key of D major which is easy for children & adults to sing in.
