This is Devotion No. 3, Sing Praise,  from Three Devotions for Voice and Piano by composer, Joan Bujacich. This Devotion is the most religious in scope and opens with a prayer like, almost spoken in nature, vocal line. It then goes into 2 melodic, easy on the ears, sections. These two melodies come together between piano and voice in a climatic section before ending with a short coda which restates the introductory material. As with all Three Devotions, this can be performed alone or with the group of three. This particular composition would be very appropriate for church performances, The YouTube video, linked below, uses images of nature with the first theme and religious statues and images for the second theme. Kathy Knittel, mezzo soprano, recorded all three of The Devotions with Joan Bujacich accompanying on piano. You can also purchase this piece along with the other two Devotions here on SMP as a group of three instead of individually. This group of Three Devotions would make a great statement in a vocal recital. They are just challenging enough for the performers  and refreshing in sound for the audience to merit being part of the standard vocal repertoire.

This is the Devotion No. 2, With Wonder from : Three Devotions For Classical Voice and Piano by Joan Bujacich.  This Devotion is mysterious and humbling as it depicts the beauty of God's creation. It is the most advanced musically of the three with the piano looping rhythmic figures that create tension and intrigue, while the voice floats above melodiously. The video set to the music, linked below to Youtube, features abstract paintings and photographs chosen are by various artists. They demonstrate the unifying message of love and respect for life, our planet, the universe and God. Though this Devotion can be performed on its own, it does balance nicely between the other two if an artist performed all three. All Three Devotions were recorded by mezzo soprano, Kathy Knittel, and the composer, Joan Bujacich on piano.

This is Devotion #1 of Three Devotions for Voice and Piano.  This music soars and swoops in a most engaging way, taking the listener on a most pleasant journey.  The voice and piano weave and flow with the lyrics. Since this is the lightest in emotional scope and lyric content of the three, this  composition can also cross over to a musical theater type style. The lyrics can be interpreted in various ways by the listener and performer.  Composer, Joan Bujacich set the music to images of mainly birds flying about freely over various landscapes. Three Devotions for Classical Voice and Piano. The three compositions in this set are: Falling To Earth, With Wonder, and Sing Praise. The pieces are also available separately, this is the collection of all three pieces. The piano accompaniment is on a somewhat advanced level, musically intertwining with the vocals . The first and third devotions are more diatonic in nature, while number two's haunting style is more contemporary and has interesting overlapping rhythmic intrigue in the phrasing. The lyrics are expressive in a spiritual and religious way and depict many analogies to nature. The music is uplifting and inspirational. Here is the full piano vocal arrangement of The Harvest of the Earth�, as heard on my YouTube channel and requsted by listeners. Originally titled “See How Brown Autumn Spreads the Fields�, this song is so rare that I couldn’t find any music for it online, and therefore wrote a new melody and accompaniment for it that captures the the solemnity and anguish of the lyrics. It’s one of the songs of harvest off of my album entitled “Hymns of Autumn�, but doesn’t talk about harvest in the traditional sense we normally sing about these days.

Not many talk about the judgement of God in today’s church, and this hymn will send chills down the spine of the most devout believer as we realize the full spectrum of God's character, including His wrath and power on Judgement Day. I found this in an old hymnal that was so old that the “S�s were still written as “F�s, and I had to squint to read it while learning to sing for this recording. I hope this ancient and powerful hymn finds a place to minister to today's church and believers around the world, perhaps after a sermon on God’s judgement, or for a Lent or Advent service about repentance and turning to God, both individually and as a nation.

This version is in B Minor to match the original recording, and includes the full piano accompaniment as played in the recording.
