The song was used in the 1942 film of the same name, where it is the first song that Jo Hayden (Judy Garland) and Harry Palmer (Gene Kelly) perform together. This version was developed from the original 1917 sheet music which John and I simplified considerably (particularly the left-hand part) so that someone of average ability can play it as-written and sound great doing so! The first and most popular version of the song was performed by Tommy Dorsey's orchestra with vocals by Frank Sinatra and The Pied Pipers, which reached No. 1 on the US best-selling records chart in 1942. This version hit No. 2 on the Harlem Hit Parade chart. There have been many other versions recorded since. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We added what we think are some pretty cool left-hand fills that we hope you will like! It's a fun song and not too hard to play!
