'Cruising Down the Nile' is an easy intermediate piano solo w/lyrics. Explores the lovely exotic sound of Mid-eastern music. Lyrics depict Ancient Egypt and scenes along the Nile. Uses broken 5ths in LH accompaniment with syncopation to depict the plodding of camels through the desert, while melodically the RH plays along the upper tetrachord (last 4 notes) of G harmonic minor scale. I included a mordant and turn to mimic the shake of the tambourine used in Ancient Egyptian music. I chose the title because of a song I dearly loved to sing as a child, 'Cruising Down the River', by Beadell and Tollerton. Animals from this region such as hippos and crocodiles are the guides from Noahs Ark. My 'Noah's Ark Series' was created to introduce piano students to different musical styles and to global music. For the student what more fun guides could there be besides animals? Different animals in various locales introduce the student to numerous styles-in this piece, the lovely exotic Mid-eastern music with camels, crocodiles, and hippos in the lyrics being the guides. Try other pieces with lyrics in this series: 'Koala Lullaby' (lullaby); 'Iguana' (tango) 'Sam the Lamb' (Celtic/Strophic); and 'Joey the Wallabee Kangarro' (waltz). This series makes a great recital theme and is contest material.

Composed by Arthur Le Clerq. Arranged by Kim Kirkman. Broadway,Contemporary,Musical/Show,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. Kim Kirkman #6697499. Published by Kim Kirkman (A0.779670).

This is a wonderful old comedy song.
I have put it into the key that Tessie O'Shea sings it (Ab major)
I have put in the first verse that Tessie sings, plus the spoken part. I have changed some of the words of the spoken part to update them.
I have then constructed a third verse from other verses that Le Clerq wrote. To sing it exactly like Tessie please repeat first verse.

Words:
Verse:
For years a fairy queen I've bin', For years I foiled the demon king.
But alas, I'm getting on, The years have flown somehow,
And I feel that Fairy Snowdrop isn't wanted now.

Chorus One:
Nobody loves a fairy when she's forty.
Nobody loves a fairy when she's old.
She may still have her magic power, But that is not enough,
They like their bit of magic from a younger bit of fluff.
When once your silver star has lost its glitter,
And your tinsel looks like rust instead of gold.
Your fairy days are ending when your wand has started bending.
Noone loves a fairy when she's old.

Spoken:
T'was I who found the magic wand, I will not tell you where.
T'was I who found young Tinkerbell, her head was full of air
I’ve been a fairy of the flowers, and fairy daffodils,
I’ve been a fairy of the wind, and suffer from it still!
In certain covered valley hills I go down to the glen
Been loved by all the children and run after by the men. Huh!
Noone could touch me at me splits, me splits were all the rage,
Until the night woodman left his chopper on the stage, what a mess!

Verse 2:
Nobody loves a fairy when she's forty.
Nobody loves a fairy when she's old.
As far as I can see they try to push you off the map,
When once your wand has withered and your wings refuse to flap.
When you have lost your little fairy dimples,
And the mothholes in your dress let in the cold,
It seems that they would sooner listen to a blinkin' crooner,
Noone loves a fai-y when she's old!

Composed by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP). 21st Century,Classical,Country,Pop. Score. 45 pages. Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) #828940. Published by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) (A0.1233352).

Sing one, two, or all six of these expressive and charming songs for soprano and piano!

Most Importantly, Loves (2021) by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP), as a six-song cycle for soprano and piano
Text — six letters by Maureen Broy Papovich
Duration 25:00
Difficulty 4 intermediate/advanced

Program note — Most Importantly, Loves (2021), a song cycle for soprano and piano composed by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP), was commissioned by Maureen Broy Papovich whose six letters furnish the text. She wrote letters to various close family members with tender messages overflowing with admiration, affection, and hope. The songs look at each beloved relative as seen through the prism of the author’s caring eyes and heart. Rooted in moody Dorian mode, the lyrical melodies of R. J. overlay a more brooding, restless piano part. Lucy sports a bit of a jazzy lilt and sassy attitude. The infectious laugh of Camryn and the remarkable resemblance to her late father underpin this quick syncopated C major number. Brendan reflects his exuberant love of life and devastating self-destructive addiction with radical tonality and tempo changes. Mira has an encouraging message for a young person in D mixolydian with soothing piano texture. Jonah’s long lines soar over lush expansive harmonies grounded in B flat major to form a soft fleece blanket of comforting sound and boundless unconditional parental love. — Adrienne Inglis

The impetus for the poems that became the song cycle “Most Importantly Loves†started a decade ago. My brother died suddenly in 2011 at the age of 42. He left all of us behind including his daughters, my nieces, when they were ages six years and six months. My father and mother died a short time later, within months of each other in 2013 and 2014. Finally, in 2017 my 27-year-old nephew died of a drug overdose. This intense period of loss brought and continues to bring about many feelings of regret in addition to so much more. When my nephew died, my son Jonah, developed an intense anxiety about losing us, his parents. I felt compelled to express my feelings, the fear of my own mortality, the anxiety of leaving behind loved ones, combined with words said and unsaid to those lost. “Love letters†is my gift to the six young people I care most about. These songs, exquisitely set to music by my friend and composer Adrienne Inglis, express my deep love for each of my loved ones and also, hopefully, provide them with a piece of writing that they can use as a source of strength when life becomes particularly challenging. —  Maureen Broy Papovich

A beautiful, Christmas lullaby with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mary Ann W. Snowball.

Text:
Straight from heav’n with God’s love came my baby boy.
Waiting long, now I sing, for I know true joy.
When he cries in my arms, I can wrap him tight . . .
Then I sing my love to him in our Father’s sight.

I’m singing my baby to sleep ev’ry day and night . . .
Just singing my baby to sleep, with love, in Father’s heav’nly light.

Straight from heav’n with God’s love came the holy One.
Down to earth now He lends his most perfect Son.
With pure light all about, my love only grows.
As I sing God’s holy words, greater care I know.

I’m singing my baby to sleep ev’ry day and night . . .
Just singing my baby to sleep, with love, in Father’s heav’nly light.

Composed by Pasquale Cafaro. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. Classical,Early Music,Opera. Score. 7 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #773780. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.1173633).

Accessible Accompaniments is proud to present the first-ever modern-clef performing edition of Pasquale Cafaro’s once enormously popular aria, “Belle luci, che accendete,†from La disfatta di Dario (1756). As noted in Giorgio Sanguinetti’s The Art of Partimento and other sources, this aria was considered the ideal Galant-era (early Classical) example of aria writing in its day, and its theme was even painted onto pottery to be sold to tourists in Naples.

While the aria was written for a castrato role, Alessandro, it is ideal for today’s young lyric coloratura sopranos who want to prepare for Mozart roles but wish to wait until they’ve found their mature vocal technique before tackling those roles. Additionally, because this La disfatta di Dario setting is a rarity and singers are unlikely to be hired for this role, it could be sung in transposition by young mezzos and other fachs without causing logistical issues like the need to produce orchestral parts in new keys.

Other aspects of this aria that make it a welcome addition to the voice teacher’s library are its widespread orchestral doubling of the vocal line (something that will help students who are still working on intonation and support), its relatively short, Italian-language text for easy memorization and diction acquisition, and its straightforward textual content—it’s a love song. In audition situations, this aria will be enjoyable for panels to hear, and because they will be very unlikely to know the aria, they won’t be able to critique it as closely as they would critique an aria they know well. It should also be sight-readable by an audition pianist of middling skill, another important consideration in choosing audition repertoire.

This new edition was engraved using Bernardo Mengozzi’s piano-vocal reduction from 1804, which preserves the soprano clef voice part and is not widely usable today, and I made some corrections to missing accidentals and articulations by cross-checking with the manuscript full score. Both are available at imslp.org. I also write out the appoggiatura executions and one potentially confusing polyrhythm on ossia staves to assist young singers/collaborative pianists who haven’t done much of this repertoire.

Range: Eb4-Bb5 without ornamentation
Tessitura: around Bb4-F5/G5

Text:

Belle luci, che accendete
In quest' alma un dolce foco,
Siete voi, e voi sarete
La mia calma, e il mio piacer.

Sì, la calma, e il piacer mio
Tutto, e sempre in voi s'aggira,
Per voi solo il cor respira,
Nè più brama il mio pensier.
