Paradise Lost by The English poet John Milton is an epic poem, retelling the tale of the Fall of Mankind – the moment when Eve was enticed by Satan to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge and then tempted Adam to do the same, and as a result both were banished from the Garden of Eden. 

This song is Milton’s vision of Adam's rebuke of Eve for her big mistakes. I edited the passage to suit a more modern ear. Adam is sometimes very angry, and sometimes rude and sad at the same time. About 4 minutes.

This gorgeous, flowing piano arrangement features complex yet intuitive rhythms in 12/8, as well as the optional descant harmonizations as heard in my recording. This song is often used in the time after Epiphany and around Christmas, but most especially during the Sunday of the Transfiguration. It makes for a beautiful solo all year long, if you like soaring Celtic melodies woven around ancient hymn lyrics. EVE’S PARADISE LOST Soprano (C up to G#), Pianoforte (also available with string quartet or reed quartet: oboes, clarinet, bassoon. Paradise Lost by The English poet John Milton is an epic occupying twelve books. It retells the tale of the Fall of Mankind – the moment when Adam and Eve were enticed by Satan to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, and as a result were banished from the Garden of Eden. Milton gives far more detail than Genesis. The song presents the story from Eve’s point of view. I edited the passages for scansion and to suit a modern ear, and ended up with lyrics that fall into three sections: Eve's feelings of shame and guilt, her overhearing the sentence, and her realisation of what she will lose. Octatonic and pentatonic modes. Many quartals. Intermediate. 6 minutes.

“Red Right Hand�, by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds was released in 1994. It is a modern-day adult gothic Halloween-type tale, inspired by English poet John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost, where the ‘red right hand strikes vengeance on the demon Belial’. This tune found its way to the Scream film series and serves as the theme song for the BBC series Peaky Blinders. This arrangement is scored for solo voice with piano accompaniment. Add an acoustic bass [part included] and a Latin percussion shaker to create your ensemble. Performance time: 5:51+.
