Originally titled “See How Brown Autumn Spreads the Fields�, this song is so rare that I couldn’t find any music for it online, and therefore wrote a new melody and accompaniment for it that captures the the solemnity and anguish of the lyrics. It’s one of the songs of harvest off of my album entitled “Hymns of Autumn�, but doesn’t talk about harvest in the traditional sense we normally sing about these days.Not many talk about the judgement of God in today’s church, and this hymn will send chills down the spine of the most devout believer as we realize the full spectrum of God's character, including His wrath and power on Judgement Day. I found this in an old hymnal that was so old that the “S�s were still written as “F�s, and I had to squint to read it while learning to sing for this recording. I hope this ancient and powerful hymn finds a place to minister to today's church and believers around the world, perhaps after a sermon on God’s judgement, or for a Lent or Advent service about repentance and turning to God, both individually and as a nation.This version is in B Minor to match the original recording, and includes the full piano accompaniment as played in the recording. Also available, by searching Stacey Plays Hymns and the song title on this site is a lead sheet version for those who prefer to play off a chart.For other formats including large print, or extended choral harmony versions, please write me at staceyplayshymns@gmail.com and I'll be glad to make them especially for you. I wrote this song to describe my feelings about the atonement of Jesus Christ. It's a conversation with the Savior about His role in my life and my desire to follow Him. It was greatly inspired by the October 2012 General Conference address The First Great Commandment by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. Elder Holland states: My beloved brothers and sisters, I am not certain just what our experience will be on Judgment Day, but I will be very surprised if, at some point in that conversation, God does not ask us exactly what Christ asked Peter: 'Did you love me?' I think He will want to know if in our very mortal, very inadequate, and sometimes childish grasp of things, did we at least understand one commandment, the first and greatest commandment of them all—'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind' (Luke 10:27; see also Matthew 22:37–38). And if at such a moment we can stammer out, 'Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee,' then He may remind us that the crowning characteristic of love is always loyalty. Joey decided he wanted to represent the waltz style since one thinks of the the folk song, Waltzing Matilda associated with Australia. This song is even described as the country's unofficial national anthem. However, as any musicologist will tell you, this song doesn't meet the criteria of a waltz (must be in triple time) because it is written in 4/4. So Joey and I made sure the song I composed in waltz style for his song is in 3/4 time. This and other pieces in 'Noah's Ark Series' is great for recitals (especially global or animal themed) and for contest and festival lists.

This arrangement is substantive and expressive for both the vocalist and the pianist. Suitable for recital or worship. It is expressive and passionate, requiring an established singer.
