My music is a merging of lovers rock and neo soul. I write predominantly about music of the heart, or romantic music for those who are blissfully in love. I have not had an easy road, so I write from brokenness, disappointment and sorrow, because I am trying to heal.

At a young age, I always felt sad and knew that I was interested in the deep topics of why we are here, so I started to write poems, which I found therapeutic because they allowed me to get out emotions that I could not express, or understand.

I want to bring understanding to those who like me have been through heavy stuff, that keeps repeating and the one is always the one, not!. Yet, we keep hoping because all around us are happy, pda couples who just sail into relationships that we can only dream of.

I am now resigned to help the World by putting into song, all the wrongs they did because I now believe that this is my destiny. For me hope has gone, but for you I will clear your road of all the dross and debris, so you can cruise into romantic happiness.

This song burst forth demanding to be heard after months of emotional turmoil and heartbreak, and with every listen, I heal a little bit more.

It was late 2015. You have written music for our children and for many others, but you’ve never written anything for me� said my bride of (then) 36 years.  
Point taken. 
Whilst she had inspired me and had been a sounding board for many works, I had never dedicated anything to her. In looking for texts which expressed something of the love and admiration I have for my dear lady, I found some beautiful poems by the late Australian poet, John Shaw Neilson. These express emotions which are romantic, whimsical, allegorical, contemplative and more, providing marvellous inspiration.
Rejecting the idea of narrative song cycle, I decided each song would tell its own story, naming the grouping Love Stories.
So here is is.
Throughout, the music is treated in ensemble; the piano does not “accompany� but supports whilst charting its own course.
The work was premiered in the 2018 Newcastle Music Festival by Michael Lampard with the composer at the piano.
And the dedicatee gave the performers a huge hug onstage at the conclusion of the work!

how it can bring with it so many different emotions.

DIRECTIONS FOR SINGING is my setting of the well-known text by John Wesley giving a litany of advice to congregational singers. My colleague at North Lake College was an outstanding bass/baritone and a church choir director. He handed me a copy of Wesley's directions for singers...found in many old hymnals...and we both enjoyed good laughs at how accurate the words are to modern congregations. My song is a type of theater presentation...or a short cantata and portrays the contrasting emotions in the text. For example: Sing lustily and with good courage ...singing the songs of Satan! Will be a dramatic high point! But, Wesley's beautiful ending makes a great conclusion. Above all sing spiritually. Have and eye to God in every word you sing Directions requires a good pianist but the voice part doesn't require a huge range. Note: there is a Mezzo Soprano score enclosed.

That's Something! is front he musical Bumblescratch and is a recitative sung by “Perry�, a young plague rat who is dealing with intense, unfamiliar and deeply contradictory emotions. Having recently fallen in love with “Thamesa� (a human girl), Perry becomes enraged when “Melbourne� attempts to stop the relationship. Melbourne explains that a human girl can only mean trouble for a rat but Perry doesn’t want to hear any of it. As the song progresses however, Perry acknowledges that Melbourne is only looking out for his best interest. Finally though, Perry’s feelings for Thamesa win out. Ultimately Perry resolves to continue the relationship. This is an excellent audition song for a young performer as it allows the singer to express three radically different emotional states, all in one (fairly brief) piece. Vocal arrangements are available for both young male and female voices. When printing, please scale to fit for standard US Letter and A4 size.
