It was written without a commission or for a specific show, but Duke offered it to producer Murray Anderson for his Broadway musical Thumbs Up!. The play opened on December 27, 1934 where the song was performed by singer J. Harold Murray. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some left-hand rhythm for interest, we hope you like what we've done with the song!

I Like The Likes of You is a song by Vernon Duke written in 1934 after he returned to the United States from Europe in 1929 with the intention of settling in the country permanently. He composed and published much serious music, but devoted greater efforts to establishing himself on Broadway. Duke's songs April in Paris (1932), Autumn in New York (1934), I Like the Likes of You (1934), Water Under the Bridge (1934), and I Can't Get Started (1936) were 1930s hits. What Is There to Say? is a great model of theater song writing from The Ziegfeld Follies of 1934, it’s a case of every note counting and not one false move along the way. The chief characteristic of the song is the four sets of triplets in the second phrase. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some pretty cool left-hand fills for your listening (playing?) pleasure - we hope you like what we've done to make this arrangement unique!
