Because of You is a popular song written by Arthur Hammerstein and Dudley Wilkinson in 1940. A 1951 recording by Tony Bennett was his first major hit, reaching number one on the Billboard charts and staying there for 10 weeks. Due to its importance in establishing his fame, he continued to perform the song for the rest of his career, even singing it at his final concert performances 70 years after its release. It was one of the last songs rehearsed at his piano before he died. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some pretty cool left-hand fills for your listening (playing?) pleasure - we hope you like what we've done to make this Tony Bennett ballad unique.

On April 4,1951, Tony Bennett recorded this beautiful and memorable song BECAUSE OF YOU with Percy Faith conducting. It reached number one on the Billboard charts remaining there for 10 weeks. He continued performing the song during his career, even singing it at his final concert. He died July 21, 2023 at the age of 96 in New York City.

This Intermediate Piano Solo Arrangement is written in the key of E flat. It is clearly and carefully notated with dynamic marks, phrasing, suggested fingerings, pedal indications, chord identifications and appropriate musical terms for playing. Robert’s arrangement incorporates modern and jazz chords which blends in with Tony Bennett’s style of singing. Students will learn unique chord voicings advancing their piano development.
